Governance – Andhra Pradesh Panchayats Earn National Recognition for Rural Development
Governance – Andhra Pradesh has achieved a significant milestone in local governance after securing five National Panchayat Awards 2025 announced by the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj. The state emerged as one of the country’s strongest performers in rural administration and development, sharing the second position with Odisha in the overall tally of awards, while Karnataka secured the top spot.

Kuppam Block Panchayat Receives National-Level Recognition
Among the major honours, Kuppam Block Panchayat in Chittoor district gained national attention after being ranked the third-best Block Panchayat in India under the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar category. The recognition carried a financial reward of Rs 1.5 crore, highlighting the region’s performance in sustainable and decentralised rural development.
The award is considered one of the highest recognitions for Panchayati Raj institutions working toward long-term grassroots progress and improved local administration.
Gram Panchayats Honoured Across Development Categories
Four Gram Panchayats from Andhra Pradesh also secured awards under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar programme for their achievements in different development sectors.
Srungavaram Gram Panchayat, located in Nathavaram mandal of Visakhapatnam district, secured the first position nationally in the “Panchayat with Good Governance” category. The village body received a cash award of Rs 1 crore for its administrative efficiency, public service delivery, and community-focused governance model.
Another top recognition went to Bokkasam Palem Gram Panchayat in Srikalahasti mandal of Tirupati district. It earned the first rank in the “Women-Friendly Panchayat” category and was awarded Rs 1 crore. The recognition reflected the Panchayat’s efforts in promoting women’s participation, welfare, and inclusive rural policies.
Focus on Livelihoods and Infrastructure
Chemmullapalli Panchayat in Khajipet mandal of YSR district secured the second rank in the “Poverty-Free and Enhanced Livelihoods Panchayat” category. The Panchayat received Rs 75 lakh for implementing programmes aimed at improving income opportunities and supporting rural families through sustainable livelihood initiatives.
Meanwhile, Gundamala Gram Panchayat in Kothapatnam mandal of Prakasam district was awarded the third rank in the “Self-Sufficient Infrastructure in Panchayat” category. The Panchayat received Rs 25 lakh for strengthening village infrastructure and improving essential public facilities.
The awards highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s performance in multiple sectors ranging from governance and infrastructure to social welfare and economic development.
State Leadership Welcomes the Achievement
Reacting to the announcement, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu described the recognition as a proud achievement for the state. He stated that the awards reflected the strength of decentralised governance and the collective contribution of villagers, farmers, elected representatives, and government officials in improving rural administration.
The Chief Minister also noted that Kuppam’s national ranking and the success of several Gram Panchayats demonstrated the growing effectiveness of local self-governance institutions across Andhra Pradesh.
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan also congratulated the award-winning Panchayats through a message posted on social media platform X. He said the national recognition brought pride to the state and appreciated the efforts of sarpanches, officials, and residents involved in village development activities.

The National Panchayat Awards are presented annually to recognise outstanding work by Panchayati Raj institutions across India. The awards encourage villages and local governing bodies to improve governance standards, public welfare systems, and sustainable development practices.
This year’s performance has strengthened Andhra Pradesh’s position among leading states in rural governance and grassroots development, with several Panchayats earning recognition for innovation, transparency, and inclusive growth initiatives.
