Shivakumar on Tuesday visited Degula Mutt in Kanakapura to offer his final respects to Mummadi Nirvana Mahaswamiji, whose death on Monday marked the end of an era for one of the region’s most respected spiritual institutions. The seer passed away following age-related health complications.
Chief Minister Recalls the Seer’s Lasting Influence
Speaking to reporters during his visit, Shivakumar highlighted the significant role played by Degula Mutt in promoting education, social welfare, and humanitarian service. He said the institution has earned widespread respect for its commitment to providing food, learning opportunities, and shelter to those in need.
The Chief Minister also reflected on his long-standing relationship with the Mutt, describing it as a bond that extends beyond public life. According to him, the spiritual guidance of Mummadi Nirvana Mahaswamiji had been closely associated with many important occasions in his family over the years.

Sharing a personal memory, Shivakumar recalled visiting the Mutt before a previous election to seek blessings from the seer. He further stated that paying state honours to the revered pontiff was a privilege and an emotional responsibility, given the deep association between his family and the centuries-old institution.
