EbolaVirusUpdate – Chhattisgarh Places Three Foreign Nationals Under Precautionary Isolation
EbolaVirusUpdate – Amid growing international concern over the recent Ebola outbreaks reported in parts of Africa, the Chhattisgarh government has confirmed that three foreign nationals have been placed under precautionary isolation in Durg district. State Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said the move was taken as part of established preventive protocols, while stressing that no Ebola infection has been detected among the individuals.

Precautionary Measures Implemented in Durg
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Jaiswal stated that the three individuals, who are citizens of African nations, have been kept under observation for a period of 21 days. According to the minister, the state administration has been actively preparing for any potential health emergency related to Ebola for over a month.
He clarified that medical examinations conducted so far have not found any evidence of the virus. Additionally, none of the isolated individuals have shown symptoms commonly associated with Ebola infection. Health authorities are continuing routine monitoring to ensure public safety and compliance with preventive guidelines.
State Claims Readiness for Health Emergencies
The minister emphasized that healthcare systems across Chhattisgarh have strengthened surveillance and response mechanisms in anticipation of possible risks arising from the international outbreak. Officials have reportedly coordinated preparedness efforts at multiple administrative levels, including hospitals and district health departments.
Authorities maintain that all necessary arrangements are in place to respond quickly if any suspected case emerges in the future. The government has urged citizens not to panic and to rely on verified information from official sources.
New Public Grievance Helpline Announced
Alongside the health-related update, Jaiswal also announced the launch of a new public grievance helpline operating under the Chief Minister’s Office.
According to him, the initiative is intended to improve communication between citizens and the state administration. He noted that a dedicated toll-free platform would allow residents to directly raise concerns and ensure that unresolved issues reach the attention of the Chief Minister.
The government believes the helpline will strengthen public confidence by creating a more accessible channel for addressing complaints and administrative matters.
Central Government Issues Travel Advisory
The development comes after the Central Government advised Indian citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan due to concerns linked to Ebola outbreaks reported in the region.
International health agencies continue to closely monitor the situation. The advisory has been issued as a precautionary step aimed at minimizing exposure risks and preventing the possible spread of infection across borders.
WHO Declares Global Health Emergency
On May 17, 2026, the World Health Organization (WHO), acting under the International Health Regulations framework, classified the Ebola situation in Congo and Uganda as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. The declaration reflects the seriousness of the outbreak and the need for coordinated international response measures.
Ebola is a severe viral disease that can lead to life-threatening complications and has historically been associated with high fatality rates. The current outbreak involves the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus. Health experts note that there are presently no approved vaccines or targeted treatments specifically designed for this strain.
No Confirmed Cases Reported in India
Officials have reiterated that India has not recorded any confirmed case of Ebola linked to the Bundibugyo virus strain. Health authorities remain vigilant and continue surveillance activities at airports, healthcare facilities, and other critical points to ensure early detection of any potential threat.
The government has urged the public to follow official advisories and avoid spreading unverified information regarding the disease.
