DefectionPolitics – Ashtikar Explains Exit as Sena (UBT) Faces Internal Turmoil

DefectionPolitics –  Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Nagesh Patil Ashtikar on Monday publicly confirmed his decision to part ways with the party, stating that his departure was not driven by any personal disagreement with party chief Uddhav Thackeray. The announcement comes amid growing uncertainty over the future of several Members of Parliament associated with the Uddhav Thackeray-led faction.

Rebel MP Cites Trust Deficit

In a video message shared on social media, Ashtikar said the developments of recent days compelled him to clarify his position. According to him, a breakdown of trust and the language used against certain MPs after they skipped a parliamentary party meeting played a significant role in shaping his decision.

Several MPs, including Sanjay Deshmukh from Yavatmal-Washim, Nagesh Patil Ashtikar from Hingoli, Sanjay Jadhav from Parbhani, Bhausaheb Wakchaure from Shirdi, Sanjay Dina Patil from Mumbai North East, and Omprakash Raje Nimbalkar from Osmanabad, were absent from the Shiv Sena (UBT) parliamentary meeting held on June 18, triggering widespread speculation about a possible split within the party.

No Personal Complaint Against Uddhav Thackeray

Ashtikar emphasized that he held no resentment toward Uddhav Thackeray and acknowledged the support and affection he had received from the party leadership over the years. He also remarked that senior leaders, including Sanjay Raut, were entitled to express their opinions regarding his actions.

However, he argued that the reaction following the missed meeting reflected a lack of confidence in the concerned MPs. He said discussions among the group intensified after what they viewed as harsh criticism and distrust, ultimately leading them to conclude that continuing within the party was no longer practical.

Development Funding Raised as Key Concern

Another major factor cited by Ashtikar was the challenge of securing adequate resources for the development of his constituency. He said elected representatives are expected to meet the aspirations of voters, but available funding mechanisms often fall short of local requirements.

According to the MP, the funds available through the MPLAD scheme are limited when compared to the scale of development work needed across constituencies. He also argued that legislators outside the ruling establishment face difficulties in accessing additional resources through various government departments and local bodies. These limitations, he said, influenced the decision taken by him and other leaders.

Speculation Over Possible Shift Intensifies

Political discussions in Maharashtra have intensified amid indications that six of the nine Lok Sabha MPs belonging to the Shiv Sena (UBT) camp could align themselves with the Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Although no formal announcement has been made regarding a collective move, reports of possible defections continue to dominate the political landscape.

Action Taken Against Ashtikar’s Son

In a related development, Shiv Sena (UBT) expelled Krishna Nagesh Patil, son of Nagesh Patil Ashtikar, citing activities considered detrimental to the party’s interests. The action was announced by Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut through a social media post.

The move is being viewed as part of the party’s effort to contain internal dissent and send a message to leaders contemplating a departure from the organization.

Uddhav Thackeray Plans Statewide Outreach

As the rebellion concerns gather momentum, Uddhav Thackeray is preparing to launch a statewide campaign aimed at reconnecting with party workers and strengthening the organization at the grassroots level.

The outreach programme is scheduled to begin on June 27 with visits to Yavatmal, Washim, and Hingoli. The following day, Thackeray is expected to travel to Parbhani and Dharashiv, while a visit to Shirdi has been planned for June 29.

Meanwhile, Aaditya Thackeray has sharply criticized the rebel leaders, alleging that personal interests and political ambition have taken precedence over loyalty to the party and its ideals.
