CrimeNews – A 17-year-old boy who was critically injured in a shooting at a restaurant in southeast Delhi’s Amar Colony has died after spending nearly a week under intensive medical care, police officials confirmed on Monday. The teenager had been receiving treatment on ventilator support since the incident and succumbed to his injuries earlier in the day.
Family Seeks Justice After Tragic Loss
The victim’s family expressed deep grief following his death and urged authorities to ensure strict action against those responsible. According to his father, Sunil Kumar, the teenager had gone out with friends for a meal when the incident occurred.
Speaking about the events leading up to the shooting, Kumar said his son was waiting for friends and eating at the restaurant when a disagreement began involving a young woman who was reportedly being harassed by a group of individuals. He alleged that when his son objected to their behavior and intervened, the situation quickly escalated. The men allegedly threatened him before gunfire was suddenly opened.
Police Investigation Reveals Sequence of Events
Law enforcement officials said they received a Police Control Room call at approximately 7:54 pm on May 26 regarding a shooting at an eatery in Amar Colony. By the time officers arrived at the location, the injured teenager had already been rushed to Moolchand Hospital.
Medical staff found him unconscious and in critical condition. Despite continuous treatment and life-support measures over several days, doctors were unable to save him.
Investigators later examined statements from witnesses and gathered evidence from the scene. Preliminary findings indicated that a heated argument broke out inside the restaurant involving several young individuals. During the confrontation, one of the accused allegedly produced a firearm and fired at the victim.
Juvenile Suspect Apprehended
Police had earlier apprehended a 16-year-old Class XII student in connection with the shooting. Authorities allege that the minor was the person who fired the shot that struck the victim.
Officials said the investigation is being conducted under relevant legal provisions, and additional evidence is being reviewed to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crime. The juvenile has been placed under legal custody as proceedings continue.
Another Accused Taken Into Custody
In a recent development, police arrested another suspect identified as Jai Kumar. Authorities believe he was linked to the incident and may have played a role in the events that unfolded at the restaurant.
Investigators are continuing to question individuals connected to the case and are examining whether additional people were involved. Police have not ruled out further arrests as the inquiry progresses.
Previous Criminal Allegations Under Review
Sources familiar with the investigation stated that the juvenile suspect is also being examined in relation to a separate shooting case reported in the Kalkaji area last year. Investigators are looking into allegations that he frequently moved around Amar Colony while allegedly claiming connections to a political figure.
Officials emphasized that all such allegations are part of an ongoing investigation and will be assessed through available evidence and legal procedures.
Family’s Only Child Remembered
The teenager was the only child of his parents and lived with his family in south Delhi. His father operates a laundry business in Chittaranjan Park, while his grandfather manages another shop in South Extension.
His death has left the family devastated, with relatives and local residents calling for swift justice and stronger measures to address violent crime involving young offenders.
