Compensation – A family court in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district has ordered compensation of ₹15 lakh to a man who claimed that his former wife’s conduct during their marriage led to severe emotional distress and the eventual collapse of their relationship. The ruling came after the court examined a petition filed by the man against his ex-wife and several individuals connected to her.

In its decision, the court awarded ₹15 lakh as compensation for what it described as mental suffering, alleged misrepresentation, and damage caused to the petitioner’s family life and reputation. The compensation amount will carry an annual interest rate of 6 percent, calculated from July 2018, the year in which the legal proceedings were initiated.
Direction Regarding Gold Ornaments
Apart from the compensation award, the court instructed the woman to return 32 grams of gold jewelry that had been presented by the groom’s family during the marriage ceremony. If the ornaments are no longer available, she has been directed to pay their current market value. The court further specified that this amount would also attract 6 percent annual interest until payment is completed.

According to the petitioner, both he and the woman had entered into the marriage after previous marriages. The man alleged that his wife maintained a relationship with another individual even after their wedding.
