Bridge Repair – Retaining Wall Restoration Begins After Rain Damage in Madhya Pradesh
Bridge Repair –Early monsoon showers have led to repair work on a damaged retaining wall attached to an under-construction culvert over the Shipra River in Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas district. Officials from the Water Resources Department clarified that the main bridge structure has not suffered any structural damage and remains safe for its intended purpose. According to the department, only a small portion of the retaining wall was affected after continuous rainfall caused soil erosion around the construction site.
Officials Confirm Main Structure Remains Secure
Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Neha Dubey stated that a section measuring nearly two metres of the retaining wall gave way because of the erosion caused by persistent rainfall. She emphasized that the incident should not be mistaken as a bridge collapse, adding that regular inspections had been carried out throughout the construction period.
Dubey said the department possesses all required quality testing reports related to the project and has already issued a notice to the construction agency responsible for the work. She also confirmed that restoration of the damaged retaining wall has started while engineers continue to keep a close watch on the site to ensure construction quality and public safety.
Repair Work Underway After Soil Erosion
Department officials explained that the damage was limited to the protective wall built alongside the culvert and did not impact the structural stability of the bridge itself. The ongoing repair work is expected to restore the affected section while preventive measures are also being considered to reduce the risk of similar damage during the remaining monsoon season.
Authorities have maintained that continuous monitoring will remain in place until construction is completed and the site is considered fully secure.
Another Rain-Related Incident Reported in Narsinghpur
In a separate development, heavy rainfall over the past few days caused a culvert on the state highway connecting Narsinghpur and Narmadapuram to collapse in Madhya Pradesh’s Narsinghpur district. The damaged structure was located over the Sukhchain River near Bandesur village in the Gadarwara subdivision.
Officials said the incident occurred after continuous rainfall weakened the structure, leading to its collapse. Local authorities responded soon after receiving information about the damage.
Highway Agencies Informed for Immediate Action
Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Ratnesh Mishra said that both the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC) were informed immediately after the incident. District officials initiated coordination with the concerned agencies so that repair work could begin without unnecessary delay.
According to Mishra, the district administration acted promptly to secure the affected area and minimise inconvenience to commuters while ensuring that no vehicles entered the damaged stretch.
Traffic Diversions Implemented to Ensure Public Safety
Police and district authorities have introduced traffic diversions to prevent accidents near the collapsed culvert. Heavy vehicles approaching from the Gadarwara side have been redirected through Paloha Tiraha towards Tendukheda. Additional diversion arrangements have also been established by Kareli Police to regulate vehicle movement in nearby areas.
Officials said warning banners, barricades, and road stoppers have been installed around the damaged location. Police personnel are also being deployed to guide motorists and maintain smooth traffic flow until the damaged infrastructure is repaired and declared safe for use.
