EducationReform – Arlekar Calls for Inclusive Growth Under Viksit Bharat Vision
EducationReform – Tamil Nadu and Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar on Saturday said the vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047” should be viewed as a broader mission for inclusive and balanced national progress rather than being measured only through economic achievements.

Speaking at a Youth Parliament programme held in Panaji, Arlekar stressed that the idea of a developed India extends beyond indicators such as GDP growth and industrial expansion. According to him, genuine national progress must also include improvements in education, governance, social harmony and cultural preservation.
Development Beyond Economic Indicators
The programme was inaugurated by Arlekar in the presence of Goa Governor P Ashok Gajapathi Raju. During his address, Arlekar noted that economic advancement alone cannot define whether a nation has truly achieved developed status.
He explained that a country’s progress should be assessed through multiple dimensions, including the quality of education, societal well-being, institutional strength and cultural growth. He said focusing on only one sector creates an incomplete picture of development.
Arlekar underlined that India’s journey toward becoming a developed nation by 2047 requires equal attention to all sections of society and every important sector of national life.
Focus on Prime Minister’s 2047 Vision
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s long-term roadmap for transforming India into a developed nation before the centenary of Independence, the governor said the target can be achieved only through coordinated growth across different fields.
He highlighted the importance of strengthening industries, improving educational opportunities and ensuring social development while also safeguarding India’s cultural identity. According to Arlekar, balanced progress is necessary to create a sustainable and inclusive future for the country.
The governor added that India’s historical and cultural traditions should continue to play a meaningful role in shaping the nation’s development path. He said cultural heritage and social values are equally important alongside infrastructure and economic growth.
Youth Asked to Play Active Role
Addressing students and young participants at the event, Arlekar encouraged them to reflect on their individual responsibilities in achieving the goals linked to Viksit Bharat 2047.
He urged young citizens to think about how they can contribute to nation-building over the next two decades through public service, leadership and social participation. He also called on youth to remain aware of national challenges and work toward constructive solutions.
According to Arlekar, active involvement from younger generations will be essential in shaping the country’s future institutions and governance systems.
Need for Greater Youth Participation in Public Life
The governor also spoke about the importance of encouraging more young people to enter public life and governance. He said trained and informed youth can introduce fresh ideas and innovative approaches to policymaking and administration.
He noted that programmes such as Youth Parliament help students understand democratic systems and prepare them for responsible civic participation. Arlekar said increased engagement from educated youth can strengthen governance and contribute positively to national development.
The event in Panaji focused on promoting democratic awareness among students while encouraging discussions on India’s future growth and governance priorities.
