AviationSafety – Indian Passenger Arrested After Alleged Assault on Flight
AviationSafety – A 52-year-old Indian man has been taken into custody in Australia following allegations of inappropriate conduct during an international flight from Singapore to Perth.

Incident Reported Mid-Flight
Authorities in Australia confirmed that the alleged incident occurred earlier this week aboard a Scoot Airlines flight operating between Singapore and Perth. The accused, identified in court records as Sudhir Kumar Chauhan, was reportedly seated next to the female passenger who later raised the complaint.
According to initial accounts, the situation escalated during the flight, prompting the woman to immediately inform the cabin crew. Airline staff responded promptly by relocating her to a different seat to ensure her safety and comfort for the remainder of the journey.
Swift Action Upon Arrival
Upon the aircraft’s arrival at Perth Airport, law enforcement officials were already prepared to intervene. Officers from the Australian Federal Police boarded the plane and escorted the accused passenger off the aircraft for questioning.
Officials stated that airline staff had continued to monitor the man after the complaint was made and had informed authorities ahead of landing. This coordination ensured that action could be taken without delay once the flight reached Australian soil.
Legal Charges and Investigation
The Australian Federal Police, working alongside the Western Australia Police Force, have initiated a formal investigation into the matter. The accused has been charged with one count of engaging in non-consensual sexual activity, along with three additional counts related to acts of indecency without consent.
Under applicable Australian aviation and criminal laws, these charges carry serious consequences. The primary charge alone can lead to a prison sentence of up to 12 years, while each indecency-related offence may result in penalties of up to seven years’ imprisonment.
Authorities emphasized that such offences are treated with utmost seriousness, particularly when they occur in confined environments like aircraft cabins where passengers have limited ability to remove themselves from uncomfortable or unsafe situations.
Court Proceedings and Custody Status
The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court. Earlier in the week, a bail request was denied, and a further hearing regarding bail is expected shortly.
Legal proceedings are ongoing, and officials have not released additional details about the defense or further evidence at this stage. The investigation continues as authorities gather more information related to the incident.
Zero Tolerance for In-Flight Misconduct
Speaking on the matter, an AFP representative reiterated the agency’s strict stance against any form of criminal behavior on aircraft or within airport premises. Officials stressed that every traveler has the right to feel secure throughout their journey.
Passengers who experience or witness inappropriate conduct are encouraged to report it immediately to airline personnel or relevant authorities. Early reporting, officials say, plays a crucial role in ensuring swift intervention and maintaining safety standards in aviation.
Airline Yet to Issue Detailed Statement
As of now, Scoot Airlines has not released a comprehensive public statement addressing the incident. However, airline staff are acknowledged to have acted in accordance with standard safety protocols by assisting the passenger and alerting authorities.
The case has once again drawn attention to the importance of vigilance and accountability in air travel, where maintaining passenger safety remains a shared responsibility between airlines and law enforcement agencies.
