Neetu Kapoor’s early journey in Hindi cinema

Known earlier as Neetu Singh, Neetu Kapoor began working in films as a child artist under the screen name Baby Sonia. She appeared in projects including Suraj, Dus Lakh and Do Kaliyan before moving into lead roles.

Her first major appearance as a leading actor came opposite Rishi Kapoor in Zehrela Insaan in 1974. Over the following years, she became one of the familiar faces of Hindi cinema, appearing in a series of popular films during the 1970s and 1980s.

Her notable work from that period includes Khel Khel Mein, Rafoo Chakkar, Kabhi Kabhie, Amar Akbar Anthony, The Great Gambler, Kaala Patthar, Yaarana and Doosara Aadmi. Many of these films remain associated with the era’s commercial Hindi cinema and her successful on-screen pairings.

Marriage, family life and return to acting

Neetu Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor developed a relationship while working together in films during the early part of their careers. They married on January 22, 1980, and later became parents to Riddhima Kapoor Sahni and actor Ranbir Kapoor.

After marriage, Neetu Kapoor took a long break from acting to focus on family life. She returned to the screen after nearly 26 years with a special appearance in Love Aaj Kal in 2009. A year later, she appeared in Do Dooni Chaar alongside Rishi Kapoor in a full-fledged role.

Neetu Kapoor was most recently seen in Dadi Ki Shaadi, which also marked Riddhima Kapoor Sahni’s Bollywood debut. Her birthday tribute from Riddhima brought together personal family memories and a look back at the actor’s long career in films.
