Ayodhya Ram Mandir – Anupam Kher Defends His Remarks Amid Online Row
Ayodhya Ram Mandir -Veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher has responded to the controversy surrounding his recent comments about the reported donation theft linked to Ayodhya’s Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir, saying his remarks were made with complete honesty and that he continues to stand by them. In a video shared on X, the actor maintained that his statement had been taken out of context and insisted that attempts were made to create unnecessary controversy around his views.

Actor Says Remarks Were Misrepresented
Addressing his followers, Kher said he had spoken from the heart after visiting the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. According to him, certain groups interpreted his comments differently because they did not align with their own viewpoints. He alleged that an organized effort was made to target him on social media by presenting his words in a distorted manner instead of discussing the issue in its original context.
The actor added that criticism and online campaigns against him did not affect his position. He said he had always expressed his opinions without fear and would continue to do so regardless of reactions from social media users, influencers, or political figures.
References to an Old Naseeruddin Shah Video
During the video message, Kher also referred to an old clip of fellow actor Naseeruddin Shah that resurfaced online amid the latest debate. The years-old video, in which Shah had criticized Kher, circulated widely across social media platforms after the Ayodhya remarks drew attention.
Kher said the video was several years old and recalled that he had already responded to those comments when they were originally made. He further stated that despite public disagreements, he and Shah have always greeted each other respectfully whenever they met and that there was mutual regard between them.
Says Personal Journey Gives Him Confidence
Reflecting on his career, Kher described himself as someone who had reached his position through years of hard work and personal values. He said this background gave him the confidence to speak according to his convictions.
Speaking about Ayodhya, the actor said he experienced a strong sense of spiritual inspiration during his visit. According to him, the city’s atmosphere encouraged him to remain truthful and unwavering in expressing his beliefs. He also remarked that the long journey leading to the construction of the Ram Mandir represented perseverance and faith.
Social Media Post Reinforces His Position
Alongside the video, Kher posted a detailed message on X reiterating that his earlier comments regarding the reported theft at the Ram Mandir had been made honestly and responsibly. He wrote that he remained committed to every word of his original statement.
The actor further claimed that some people were more interested in creating public disputes than understanding the context of his remarks. He alleged that his comments had been selectively presented to fuel online arguments rather than meaningful discussion.
Kher also stated that he had never allowed criticism or public pressure to influence his opinions. He said people were free to agree or disagree with his views, but maintained that expressing what he believes to be true was both his right and his responsibility.
Earlier Remarks Sparked Widespread Debate
The latest clarification comes after Kher’s comments on the reported financial irregularities involving donations connected to Ayodhya’s Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir triggered extensive discussion online. During his earlier interaction, he had described the alleged fund discrepancy, reportedly estimated between Rs. 2 crore and Rs. 7 crore, as a comparatively minor issue while drawing a historical comparison with large-scale destruction and looting during the Mughal period.
Those remarks generated mixed reactions across social media, prompting criticism from some users while others defended the actor’s right to express his opinion. With his latest video and written statement, Kher has made it clear that he does not intend to withdraw or alter his original position despite the continuing public debate.
