ReliefEfforts – Union Health and Family Welfare Minister J.P. Nadda is set to visit Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday as part of his review of relief operations in areas affected by recent floods and landslides. The visit will focus on assessing rehabilitation work, healthcare services, and assistance being provided to people impacted by the natural disaster.
Final Phase of Northeast Assessment Tour
The Arunachal Pradesh visit concludes the Union Minister’s three-day tour covering the flood and landslide-hit states of Assam, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh. Throughout the tour, Nadda has been evaluating the scale of damage while reviewing relief and recovery measures being carried out by state authorities with support from the Central government.
During his stay in Arunachal Pradesh, the Minister is expected to inspect locations affected by floods, flash floods, and cloudburst incidents. He is also likely to visit temporary relief shelters, examine damaged public infrastructure, and meet residents who have been directly affected by the disaster to understand their concerns and the progress of recovery efforts.
Centre Reaffirms Support for Assam
A day earlier, while visiting Assam, Nadda reiterated the Central government’s commitment to supporting relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction work in flood-affected regions. He assured residents that all necessary assistance would continue to be provided to help families recover from the destruction caused by the floods.
Accompanied by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Union Minister toured the Bihubor and Nepali Khuti areas in Sivasagar district. He reviewed the prevailing conditions on the ground, interacted with local residents, and gathered information on the challenges being faced by communities affected by the recent flooding.
Damage Assessment and Rehabilitation Plans
Speaking with local people during the visit, Nadda stated that the Central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remains committed to ensuring that relief and rehabilitation activities continue without interruption. He emphasized that adequate resources would be made available for recovery efforts.
The Minister also said that teams deployed by the Centre are conducting detailed assessments of losses across affected areas. The findings will help authorities prepare and implement restoration and rehabilitation measures at the earliest possible stage.
The recent floods have caused widespread destruction in the Bihubor and Nepali Khuti regions of Sivasagar district. Hundreds of houses have sustained damage, large areas of farmland remain underwater, and many livestock losses have been reported, affecting the livelihoods of numerous families.
Inspection of Landslide-Hit Areas in Nagaland
Following his Assam visit, Nadda travelled to Nagaland to review the situation in landslide-affected areas of Mon district. He was accompanied by Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Singhal and Rajya Sabha MP Phangnon Konyak during the inspection.
The Union Minister visited the Defence Colony and nearby parts of Techa Ward, where landslides caused significant destruction. He met families who had lost loved ones and interacted with displaced residents staying at the Konyak Union Office relief facility to understand their immediate needs.
Coordination Between Centre and State Governments
During the visit, Nadda assured affected residents that the Central government would continue working closely with the Nagaland administration to manage the ongoing flood and landslide situation. He said coordinated efforts are being made to ensure that relief materials, rehabilitation support, and essential services reach every affected family without delay.
Heavy rainfall in Mon district triggered several landslides, leaving Defence Colony and surrounding localities among the worst-affected areas. Numerous homes suffered severe structural damage, forcing many residents to relocate. The landslides also disrupted transportation links in several locations, while electricity and water supply were temporarily interrupted in parts of the district before restoration work began.
