Monsoon – Widespread Rainfall Expected Across India as Delhi-NCR Gets Relief
Monsoon – Residents of Delhi-NCR experienced a pleasant start to Thursday as moderate rain reduced the discomfort caused by humid weather. The rainfall brought a noticeable drop in temperatures, offering temporary relief after several days of muggy conditions. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the active southwest monsoon is expected to continue influencing weather patterns across the country, with many regions likely to receive significant rainfall over the next 24 hours.
Rain Likely Across Several Parts of the Country
The IMD has predicted widespread monsoon activity covering northern, eastern, western and southern parts of India. Several states are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall as favourable atmospheric conditions remain in place. Weather officials said the ongoing monsoon system continues to stay active, increasing the chances of intense showers across multiple regions.
Among the states expected to witness very heavy rainfall are Uttarakhand, Odisha, Kerala, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Gangetic West Bengal. Apart from these areas, heavy rainfall has also been forecast for Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Tamil Nadu and neighbouring regions.
Delhi-NCR Forecast Remains Cloudy
For Delhi and the National Capital Region, the weather department has predicted cloudy skies throughout the day with the possibility of heavy rain at several locations. Despite the forecast, authorities have not issued any official weather alert for the capital or surrounding districts. Residents may still experience intermittent showers and overcast conditions during the day.
The rainfall received during the morning hours improved weather conditions across the region, making outdoor temperatures comparatively more comfortable than in recent days.
Weather Systems Supporting Active Monsoon
Meteorologists explained that the current monsoon trough extends from Sri Ganganagar to Mizoram, passing through Rohtak, Shahjahanpur, Sultanpur, Gaya and Bankura. This weather feature is helping create conditions that favour widespread rainfall across large parts of the country.
In addition, cyclonic circulations over Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and the northeastern states, along with the influence of a western disturbance, are expected to strengthen rainfall activity. These combined weather systems are likely to maintain active monsoon conditions during the next 24 hours, resulting in frequent showers across many regions.
Uttar Pradesh Under Rain Watch
The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for rainfall in 20 districts of western Uttar Pradesh. Besides the alert, scattered rain has also been forecast across different parts of the state on Friday. Local authorities are expected to monitor changing weather conditions and advise residents accordingly if rainfall intensity increases.
Uttarakhand Faces Continuing Heavy Rain
Uttarakhand has continued to receive heavy rainfall since Wednesday, affecting several districts across the state. Rising water levels in rivers and seasonal streams have prompted close monitoring by local authorities. Continuous rain has also increased the possibility of landslides in vulnerable hill areas, creating additional concerns for residents and travellers.
Keeping the situation in view, the Meteorological Department has continued its warning for Thursday by maintaining an Orange Alert in several districts, including Dehradun. Officials have advised both residents and district administrations to remain cautious, particularly in areas vulnerable to flooding, waterlogging and landslides. Authorities are also keeping a close watch on changing weather conditions as active monsoon activity is expected to persist across different parts of the country.
