Karnataka – Cross-Party MPs Unite in Delhi to Strengthen Karnataka’s Development Agenda
Karnataka – Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s meeting with Members of Parliament in New Delhi on July 26 received widespread appreciation, with leaders from different political parties describing it as a significant step toward strengthening cooperation between the state and the Centre. The gathering focused on presenting a common approach to issues affecting Karnataka, regardless of political affiliations.
Leaders Welcome Rare Display of Political Unity
The meeting brought together MPs representing both the ruling alliance and opposition parties, reflecting a rare instance of bipartisan participation. Several senior leaders, including Union Ministers and parliamentarians, commended the initiative and said such a broad-based consultation involving Karnataka’s MPs had not been witnessed before.
Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi, Shobha Karandlaje, Jagadish Shettar, V. Somanna and Basavaraj Bommai, along with Rajya Sabha member Sudha Murty, praised the Chief Minister for organizing the discussion. They noted that the large attendance demonstrated a collective commitment to addressing the state’s priorities through coordinated efforts.
Focus Remained on Karnataka’s Key Priorities
A central theme of the meeting was the need for all elected representatives to work together in the interest of Karnataka. Participants supported the Chief Minister’s call to move beyond political differences when dealing with matters related to the state’s growth and welfare.
Leaders agreed that a united voice would strengthen Karnataka’s position while engaging with the Union government on several important issues. Among the key subjects discussed were the release of pending central funds, approval of ongoing development projects, and financial assistance for drought relief measures.
Broad Representation from Parliament
The meeting witnessed participation from a large number of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha members representing Karnataka. Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi, V. Somanna and Shobha Karandlaje attended alongside Lok Sabha MPs Basavaraj Bommai, Jagadish Shettar, P. C. Gaddigoudar, Ramesh Jigajinagi, Sagar Khandre, Dr. Manjunath, E. Tukaram, Tejasvi Surya, P. C. Mohan, Govind Karjol, Dr. Sudhakar, Sunil Bose, Priyanka Jarkiholi, Prabha Mallikarjun, Radhakrishna, Shreyas Patel, Rajshekar Hitnal, Mallesh Babu, Brijesh Chowta, Yaduveer Wadiyar, Kumar Naik, B. Y. Raghavendra, Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri and Kota Srinivas Poojary.
Rajya Sabha members Sudha Murty, Jairam Ramesh, Ajay Maken, G. C. Chandrashekhar, Syed Nasir Hussain, Narayan Bhandage, M. Nagaraj, Mansoor Khan and Pawan Khera also took part in the discussions, adding to the broad representation across political parties.
Some Senior Leaders Could Not Participate
A few prominent leaders were unable to attend because of previously scheduled commitments. Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and H. D. Kumaraswamy, along with Rajya Sabha members Mallikarjun Kharge, Jaggesh, Lehar Singh and Dr. Veerendra Heggade, had informed the organizers in advance that they would not be able to join the meeting.
Their absence, however, did not affect the overall participation, as the event recorded one of the largest gatherings of Karnataka’s MPs in recent years for a discussion centered on the state’s development priorities.
Meeting Seen as Positive Step for Future Coordination
Participants described the meeting as a productive exercise that could improve coordination between Karnataka’s representatives in Parliament. Leaders expressed confidence that speaking with a unified voice on matters concerning infrastructure, financial assistance and public welfare would strengthen the state’s case before the Union government.
According to those present, the discussions reflected a shared commitment to securing Karnataka’s interests through cooperation rather than political confrontation. Many leaders viewed the initiative as an encouraging example of collaborative governance and hoped similar engagements would continue in the future to advance the state’s long-term development goals.
