Several people were injured after gunfire erupted at Seattle Center on Sunday evening, prompting a large emergency response and an active police investigation. Officers quickly reached the scene after reports of shots being fired, while emergency medical teams treated victims and arranged for them to be taken to nearby hospitals. Officials have not yet confirmed the total number of injured people or released information about any suspects as inquiries continue.

Police Secure Area Following Shooting

The Seattle Police Department confirmed the incident through an official statement on X, informing residents and visitors that officers were investigating a shooting involving multiple victims. The department urged the public to stay away from the area to allow emergency responders and investigators to carry out their work safely. Police added that additional details would be shared once verified information became available.

The incident occurred while thousands of people were gathered at Seattle Center, one of the city’s busiest public venues. Investigators remained at the location for several hours, examining the scene, collecting evidence, and speaking with potential witnesses to establish the sequence of events.

Festival Crowd Caught Off Guard

According to CNN, the shooting happened during the annual Bite of Seattle festival, a popular community event known for bringing together hundreds of food vendors, local businesses, and live entertainment. The festival, held near the iconic Space Needle, attracts large crowds each year and was underway when panic spread through the venue.

Witnesses described scenes of confusion as people rushed away after hearing gunfire. Two attendees who spoke with CNN affiliate KOMO said they heard what sounded like seven or eight shots before festival-goers began running in different directions in an effort to reach safety. Their accounts highlighted the sudden and chaotic nature of the incident.

Medical Teams Respond to Victims

Harborview Medical Center confirmed to CNN that it was preparing to receive patients injured in the shooting. While hospital officials acknowledged that victims were being transported for treatment, they did not immediately provide updates on the severity of injuries or the number of people admitted.

Emergency personnel worked alongside law enforcement officers to assist the injured and coordinate transportation from the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those affected, and families were encouraged to rely on official updates rather than speculation.

Transportation Services Suspended

In response to the emergency, Seattle Center Monorail officials announced that rail service would remain closed for the rest of Sunday. The temporary suspension was introduced to support public safety measures and allow emergency operations to continue without interruption. Officials stated that normal service was expected to resume on Monday morning.

The closure affected visitors leaving the festival area, with many relying on alternate transportation as police maintained security around the scene.

Investigation Continues

Investigators are continuing to examine evidence and interview witnesses to determine what led to the shooting. As of the latest official update, authorities have not announced any arrests or disclosed information regarding a possible motive.

Police have urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or recorded videos and photographs to contact investigators, as such material could assist the ongoing inquiry. Officials also reminded the public to follow verified announcements while the investigation remains active.

The incident has temporarily overshadowed one of Seattle’s best-known community festivals, and authorities are expected to provide further updates as more facts are confirmed.
