Delhi Police – Suspect Held After Exchange of Fire in Narela
Delhi Police – Delhi Police arrested a 28-year-old man following an exchange of fire in the Narela Industrial Area, officials said on Thursday. The accused, identified as Irshad Ali, is alleged to be connected to multiple cases involving attempted murder, robbery, snatching and violations of the Arms Act. He was injured in the leg during the police operation and was later taken into custody.

Police Act on Late-Night Information
According to police, the operation began after officers received information that Ali would visit an area near Sannoth Village in Narela Industrial Area during the night between Wednesday and Thursday. A police team was deployed at the location and set up surveillance to intercept him.
Officials said the accused was spotted near the identified area and was asked to stop and surrender. Instead of complying, he allegedly tried to escape from the spot. Police said he fired at the team while attempting to flee.
Shots Fired During Attempt to Escape
A senior police officer said the accused fired two rounds in the direction of the police personnel. The police team responded with four rounds of fire during the encounter.
Deputy Commissioner of Police for Outer North district, Shobbit D. Saksena, said Ali sustained a bullet injury to his leg during the exchange. He was then restrained and arrested by the police team. No police officer was injured in the operation, officials said.
The police have not reported any injuries to civilians in connection with the incident. Further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and examine the weapon allegedly used by the accused.
Stolen Motorcycle Recovered
Police said a motorcycle believed to have been stolen was recovered from Ali after his arrest. The vehicle has been seized and will be examined as part of the investigation.
Ali is a resident of JJ Colony in Bawana and is also known by the names Sukar Ali and Shankar Ali, according to police records. Investigators are verifying his alleged links to crimes reported in different parts of Delhi.
Alleged Links to Several Criminal Cases
Police said the accused has been named in around 49 criminal cases. These include allegations of attempted murder, robbery, mobile phone snatching, chain snatching and offences related to illegal arms.
Officials said he was wanted in several snatching cases registered in the Rohini and Outer North police districts. The police are reviewing case records and may question him further about incidents reported in these areas.
The arrest is expected to assist investigators in pending cases involving street crime, particularly mobile phone and chain snatching. Police are also checking whether the recovered motorcycle was used in any recent criminal activity.
Separate Case to Be Registered
A separate First Information Report is being registered at Narela Industrial Area police station over the alleged firing at police personnel, the DCP said. The case will include allegations related to firing at police officers and resisting arrest.
Police said the accused will be produced before a court in accordance with legal procedure. Investigators are continuing to collect evidence, including forensic material from the scene and details related to the recovered motorcycle.
