YogaMandirams – Andhra Pradesh Expands Wellness Mission with Statewide Yoga Infrastructure Plan
YogaMandirams – The Andhra Pradesh government has announced an ambitious plan to strengthen its long-term wellness and preventive healthcare framework by establishing permanent Yoga Mandirams in every Swarna Grama and Ward Secretariat across the state. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu revealed the initiative during the Yogandhra 2026 celebrations held in Vijayawada on Sunday, outlining a broader strategy to integrate yoga into daily community life.

Permanent Facilities Planned Across the State
Addressing participants at the state-level International Yoga Day programme, the Chief Minister said the government intends to institutionalise yoga practices by creating dedicated spaces where residents can regularly engage in wellness activities. The proposed Yoga Mandirams are expected to serve as community centres focused on physical fitness, mental well-being, and healthy living.
Naidu stated that the state’s development vision combines technological advancement with spiritual values. According to him, this balanced approach can contribute to building a healthier and more prosperous Andhra Pradesh while encouraging social harmony and individual well-being.
Sanjeevani Project to Launch in August
The Chief Minister also announced that the Sanjeevani project, which seeks to incorporate yoga and holistic wellness practices into the healthcare system, will be launched across Andhra Pradesh on August 15. The initiative aims to promote preventive healthcare measures and encourage citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles through regular wellness activities.
Government officials believe the programme will help strengthen public health outcomes by integrating traditional wellness practices with modern healthcare services.
Massive Participation Marks International Yoga Day
The announcement came during large-scale International Yoga Day celebrations organised at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium in Vijayawada. The event witnessed the participation of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu alongside Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna, who performed yoga sessions with thousands of attendees.
The celebrations reflected widespread public engagement, with yoga activities conducted simultaneously across numerous locations throughout the state.
State Sets New Global Milestones
According to official figures, more than 1.07 crore people took part in yoga sessions across approximately 1.33 lakh centres statewide. The participation level reportedly resulted in the creation of two world records, marking a significant achievement for Andhra Pradesh’s public wellness campaign.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the success builds upon the momentum generated by Yogandhra 2025, which was held in Visakhapatnam. That event had earned two Guinness World Records and received national attention during the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Roadmap for Future Yoga Programmes
Looking ahead, the government unveiled a structured roadmap for the Yogandhra movement. The plan includes appointing monitoring officers at district and mandal levels to oversee implementation, forming an expert committee to establish standard yoga guidelines, and developing a dedicated online portal for yoga practitioners.
Naidu also expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for promoting International Yoga Day globally, noting that the observance is now celebrated in around 190 countries. He further announced that Andhra Pradesh is preparing to host the 2027 International Yoga Day celebrations in Tirupati.
Commitment to Preventive Healthcare
The event concluded with a public pledge led by the Chief Minister, encouraging citizens to contribute responsibly toward social welfare and healthier communities. The initiative reinforces the government’s focus on preventive healthcare, wellness awareness, and sustainable living practices.
Several senior leaders attended the programme, including Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, HRD and IT Minister Nara Lokesh, and other dignitaries.
Health Minister Y. Satya Kumar Yadav praised the efforts of nearly 2.5 lakh instructors who guided yoga sessions across the state. He also acknowledged the contributions of various government departments, stating that Andhra Pradesh’s wellness model continues to attract attention as an example for other states exploring similar public health initiatives.
