The selection highlights the steady rise of Mayon Machaiah Merianda and his younger brother Krish Machaiah Merianda, who have spent years developing their skills through rigorous training and participation in competitive hockey programs in the United States. Their progress reflects a strong commitment to one of North America’s most challenging and fast-paced team sports.

Advancement to Higher-Level Teams

Fifteen-year-old Mayon, a Grade 10 student at Independence High School in Frisco, has earned a place on the Varsity squad after delivering impressive performances during previous seasons. His promotion is seen as a significant step forward in his sporting journey, placing him among players competing at a higher level of the game.

His younger brother Krish, who recently completed Grade 8 at Nelson Middle School, has also secured a position within the Junior Varsity team. Coaches and observers have credited his consistent performances and development at the grassroots level for helping him reach this stage.

Years of Training Pay Off

The brothers’ success did not come overnight. Both athletes have spent several years refining their abilities through structured coaching, regular practice sessions, and participation in competitive matches. Their dedication has enabled them to progress steadily through the ranks of youth ice hockey in Texas.

Being selected for the Summer 2026 teams is regarded as an important achievement, particularly given the highly competitive nature of youth hockey programs in the United States. The recognition reflects both their individual efforts and their commitment to continuous improvement.

Strong Roots in Karnataka

Mayon and Krish belong to the respected Meriyanda family of Kodagu, with ancestral ties linked to the historic Meriyanda Ain Mane. Their family heritage remains an important part of their identity despite growing up in the United States.

The family also maintains a longstanding connection with Mysuru, where their grandmother, Sharada Thimmayya, resides. Relatives in Karnataka have expressed pride in the brothers’ accomplishments and continue to follow their sporting journey with interest.

Maintaining Cultural Connections

Although they have spent most of their lives in the United States, the brothers continue to stay closely connected to their roots. Regular visits to Mysuru and Kodagu have helped them maintain strong relationships with extended family members and remain familiar with their cultural heritage.

Their achievements serve as an inspiring example of young athletes balancing international sporting ambitions while preserving meaningful ties to their family origins. As they prepare for the Summer 2026 season, supporters in both the United States and Karnataka will be watching with interest as the brothers continue their development in the sport.
