Weather – Delhi began June with noticeably milder weather conditions, as temperatures remained below the usual levels for this time of year. According to observations recorded on Monday, the city experienced its coolest first day of June in the last three years. The official weather station at Safdarjung reported a maximum temperature of 36.3 degrees Celsius, offering residents some relief from the intense summer heat typically associated with the month.

Temperatures Remain Below Seasonal Average

Data released by the weather department showed that the day’s highest temperature settled at 36.3 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was measured at 24.9 degrees Celsius. These readings placed the maximum temperature significantly below the normal seasonal benchmark for early June.

Meteorologists noted that the daytime temperature remained 3.7 degrees Celsius lower than the long-term average recorded for this period. Such conditions are relatively uncommon at the beginning of June, when temperatures in the national capital generally climb higher as summer reaches its peak.

Comparison With Previous Years

Weather records indicate that Delhi last witnessed a cooler June 1 in 2023. On that date, the city registered a maximum temperature of 32.7 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 20.6 degrees Celsius, making it cooler than the latest reading.

While this year’s figures were higher than those seen in 2023, they still marked the lowest maximum temperature recorded on the first day of June since then. The comparison highlights a notable departure from the typical weather pattern expected during the opening days of the month.

Weather Conditions Bring Temporary Relief

The lower daytime temperatures provided a brief respite for residents who have been dealing with fluctuating summer conditions. Cooler-than-normal weather during early June can reduce heat stress and improve outdoor comfort levels, particularly during afternoon hours when temperatures usually peak.

Experts often attribute such variations to changing atmospheric conditions, cloud cover, and regional weather systems that influence temperature patterns across northern India. However, weather conditions can shift rapidly during this period, and temperatures may rise again as the month progresses.

Air Quality Remains in Moderate Category

Alongside the temperature update, air quality readings showed moderate conditions across the city. Data released by the Central Pollution Control Board indicated that Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 105 at 4 pm on Monday.

An AQI reading within this range falls under the “moderate” category, suggesting that air quality was acceptable for most people, although individuals who are particularly sensitive to pollution may still experience minor health effects.

The combination of relatively cooler weather and moderate air quality marked a comparatively comfortable start to June for the national capital. Weather officials will continue monitoring atmospheric conditions in the coming days as the city moves further into the summer season.
