Accident – Unnao Expressway Bus Crash Leaves Six Dead, Several Injured

Accident – A devastating road accident on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district claimed at least six lives and left more than ten passengers injured early Monday morning. The incident occurred when a private bus travelling from Delhi to Bihar reportedly lost control and overturned near Kilometre Marker 262 under the Auras Police Station area.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and conveyed condolences to the families of those who died in the accident. In a message shared on social media platform X, the Chief Minister described the incident as deeply painful and prayed for peace for the deceased while wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.

Emergency Teams Respond Quickly

Health officials said rescue and medical teams were mobilised immediately after authorities received information about the crash around 5:30 am. According to Anoop Tiwari, in-charge of the Auras Community Health Centre, emergency management procedures were activated without delay, allowing injured passengers to receive prompt treatment soon after the accident took place.

He stated that victims began arriving at the health centre within minutes of the alert being issued. Medical staff treated several injured passengers on-site, while critically injured individuals were referred to a nearby medical college for advanced care. Authorities also transferred the bodies of the deceased to the district hospital in Unnao after completing required police formalities.

Bus Was Travelling From Delhi to Bihar

Officials said the bus was carrying passengers from Delhi to Bihar when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle on the expressway. Preliminary reports suggest the bus hit the divider before overturning on the road. Police and local administration teams reached the spot shortly after the accident and began rescue operations.

Traffic movement on the expressway was briefly affected as emergency personnel worked to remove the damaged vehicle and assist passengers trapped inside. Authorities have started an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash, including whether speeding, driver fatigue, or mechanical failure contributed to the incident.

Policeman Escorting Prisoner Among Victims

Among those who lost their lives was Sub-Inspector Ramchandra, who was reportedly returning to Bihar after travelling to Delhi with a prisoner identified as Chhatrapal. Officials said the police officer was accompanying the prisoner during the journey when the accident occurred.

The deaths of the passengers, including the police officer, have triggered grief among families and local residents. Several injured passengers remain under medical supervision, while officials continue to monitor their condition.

Government Extends Support to Families

The Uttar Pradesh government has assured all possible assistance to the affected families and directed district authorities to ensure proper treatment for the injured. Senior officials are also expected to review safety measures on major highways following the latest accident.

Road accidents on high-speed expressways remain a growing concern in several parts of the state, particularly during long-distance overnight travel. Authorities have repeatedly advised drivers to maintain speed limits and remain alert while travelling on expressways.

Police officials said further details regarding the passengers and the ongoing investigation will be released after verification and completion of official procedures.
