Shopkeeper’s Complaint Triggered the Investigation

The investigation began after a local shopkeeper approached police with concerns about suspicious Rs 100 notes used by a customer while purchasing cigarettes on June 29. The matter was immediately examined by a beat officer, who verified that the notes were counterfeit. Acting swiftly, police detained the suspect, later identified as 62-year-old Natraj Mohan Kanchan, a resident of Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra.

Officials said the prompt reporting by the shopkeeper played a key role in exposing what later turned out to be a wider interstate counterfeit currency network.

Search Operation Led to Additional Recoveries

Following Kanchan’s arrest, investigators carried out a search at his hotel room in Delhi’s Paharganj area. During the search, police recovered more fake currency allegedly kept in his possession. The fresh seizure strengthened suspicions that the accused was involved in distributing forged notes across different locations.

The recovered counterfeit notes have been taken into police custody for forensic examination as part of the investigation.

Second Suspect Arrested During Follow-Up Probe

During questioning, Kanchan allegedly disclosed information that led investigators to another suspect identified as Subhash Chandra. Acting on the information gathered during interrogation, Delhi Police arrested Chandra from Delhi.

Police officials stated that the investigation helped establish links between the accused, indicating that the operation extended beyond a single individual. Authorities are examining the exact role played by each accused in the alleged counterfeit currency racket.

Printing Equipment Seized by Investigators

As the investigation progressed, police also recovered equipment believed to have been used in the production of counterfeit currency. The seized materials are expected to assist forensic experts in determining the methods used to manufacture the forged notes.

Officials have not yet disclosed the complete technical details of the equipment, as the investigation remains active. The recovered items will be examined to identify possible sources of raw materials and any additional individuals associated with the operation.

Investigation Continues to Trace Wider Network

Delhi Police said efforts are continuing to determine the full extent of the interstate counterfeit currency network. Investigators are examining whether the fake notes had already been circulated in local markets and if more people were involved in producing or distributing them.

Authorities are also verifying financial and communication records connected with the arrested individuals to identify additional links. Police have indicated that further action will depend on evidence gathered during the ongoing investigation.
