Politics – NDA Targets Congress Over Response to Jharkhand Exam Protests
Politics –The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Friday intensified its criticism of the Congress, accusing the party of applying different standards when responding to allegations of recruitment examination irregularities. The ruling alliance at the Centre argued that while Congress frequently criticises the BJP-led Union government over such issues, it has remained comparatively restrained regarding similar concerns in Jharkhand, where it shares power with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
Recruitment Examination Controversy in Jharkhand
The political exchange comes as the JMM-led coalition government continues to face protests over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). Student groups and job aspirants have been demanding greater transparency, accountability, and action over the examination process, keeping the issue at the centre of the state’s political debate.
Chirag Paswan Calls for Dialogue With Students
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan said governments should remain in constant communication with students, particularly during situations that affect their future. According to him, policymakers have a responsibility to listen to the concerns of young people and respond constructively.
Paswan stated that the Central government has shown sensitivity towards students’ concerns and expressed hope that the Jharkhand government would adopt a similar approach. He also took an indirect swipe at the JMM’s alliance partners, suggesting that some leaders who actively raise examination-related issues elsewhere have not shown the same level of involvement in Jharkhand beyond making symbolic statements.
BJP Questions Congress’ Position
BJP Member of Parliament Tarun Chugh also criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, alleging that the party’s approach differs depending on whether it is in government or in the Opposition.
Addressing the media, Chugh questioned why the Jharkhand government had not fully addressed the demands of protesting students if it accepted that their concerns were justified. He further argued that the Congress had remained largely silent on examination-related controversies in states such as Punjab while strongly criticising the BJP-led government on similar matters at the national level.
According to Chugh, this contrast reflects what the BJP describes as inconsistent political positions adopted by the Congress in different states.
Kangana Ranaut Joins the Political Debate
BJP MP Kangana Ranaut also commented on the issue, accusing Opposition parties of repeatedly opposing the government’s legislative and administrative initiatives. She claimed that the public has observed this pattern over time and suggested that political disagreements have extended beyond policy debates.
Her remarks added another dimension to the ongoing exchange between the ruling alliance and the Opposition during the current Parliament session.
Ranaut Clarifies Her Remarks on Gen Z
Responding to questions about her earlier comments regarding Generation Z, which had drawn criticism in recent days, Ranaut clarified that she considers young voters an important part of the democratic process.
She said the continued electoral support received by the government reflects the confidence placed in it by many young citizens. Ranaut also distinguished between peaceful student demonstrators and a small number of individuals whose actions, according to her, should not define an entire generation.
She praised the students participating in the Jharkhand protests for maintaining discipline and conducting their demonstrations peacefully. Emphasising the contribution of young people, Ranaut described Generation Z as one of the country’s greatest strengths and said they deserve appreciation rather than broad generalisations.
The political disagreement over the Jharkhand recruitment examination issue is expected to remain in focus as student protests continue and both the ruling alliance and the Opposition seek to reinforce their respective positions on accountability and governance.
