CrimeNews – A violent confrontation erupted between police personnel and a suspected cattle theft gang in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district on Monday, resulting in injuries to three accused individuals during an exchange of gunfire, officials confirmed. Police Operation Leads to Armed Confrontation

According to officials, local police teams had launched an intensified checking drive focusing on suspicious vehicles and individuals believed to be involved in cattle theft and smuggling. During the operation, officers identified a group of suspects whose movements reportedly raised suspicion.

Police sources stated that the accused attempted to escape after spotting the security team. As officers moved to intercept them, the suspects allegedly opened fire in an effort to break through the police barricade and flee from the area.

The sudden attack prompted the police team to retaliate in self-defence, leading to a brief but intense exchange of gunfire. During the encounter, three alleged gang members suffered bullet injuries to their legs and were overpowered at the scene.

Injured Accused Shifted to Hospital

Authorities said the injured men were immediately taken into custody and later transported to a nearby hospital under police supervision. Medical treatment was provided without delay, while security arrangements were tightened around the hospital premises.

Officials confirmed that the condition of the injured accused remains under observation. Their identities and criminal backgrounds are currently being verified as part of the ongoing investigation.

Cash and Illegal Weapons Recovered

Following the arrests, police recovered cash amounting to Rs 1.04 lakh from the possession of the accused. Investigators also seized three country-made pistols, commonly referred to as tamanchas, along with several live cartridges and empty bullet shells from the encounter site.

Police officials believe the recovered weapons were being used by the gang during criminal activities linked to cattle theft and smuggling operations across nearby districts.

The seized cash is also being examined to determine whether it was connected to illegal cattle trade or other criminal transactions.

Investigation Expands to Identify Gang Network

Senior police officials stated that efforts are underway to trace additional members associated with the gang. Investigators are collecting information regarding the suspects’ previous criminal records and possible links to organised smuggling networks operating in western Uttar Pradesh.

Authorities indicated that multiple teams have been formed to gather intelligence and verify whether the accused were involved in earlier cases registered in Mathura and adjoining districts.

In an official statement, the police administration said that the injured suspects had been admitted to hospital immediately after the encounter and that further investigation into the wider network was continuing.

Legal Action Underway

Police confirmed that legal proceedings related to the case have already begun. The recovered firearms and ammunition have been sent for forensic examination, while officers continue to question the accused regarding their alleged involvement in cattle theft activities.

The encounter has once again highlighted the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in curbing organised cattle smuggling operations in parts of Uttar Pradesh. Security checks and surveillance activities in sensitive areas are expected to continue in the coming days as police intensify efforts against criminal gangs operating in the region
