Appeal for Greater Public Responsibility

In a message shared on social media platform X, Sandhu said obeying traffic laws is not only a legal obligation but also an important civic duty. According to him, better compliance with road regulations can significantly reduce traffic congestion, road mishaps, and vehicle emissions caused by long traffic jams.

The Lieutenant Governor said he has instructed the traffic police to intensify enforcement measures in different parts of Delhi. He also encouraged citizens to actively participate in the campaign by using the Traffic Prahari mobile application to report violations. The app allows residents to share information related to traffic offences and supports authorities in monitoring road discipline.

Sandhu noted that public involvement can play an important role in improving overall traffic conditions in the national capital.

Focus on Safer Driving Practices

The Lieutenant Governor specifically urged motorists and pedestrians to avoid risky behaviour on roads. He highlighted issues such as driving on the wrong side, jumping traffic signals, and unsafe jaywalking as major concerns that continue to affect road safety in Delhi.

He also emphasised the importance of responsible parking habits, saying that poorly parked vehicles often contribute to congestion and inconvenience for commuters. In addition, he reminded two-wheeler riders and car passengers about the importance of wearing helmets and seatbelts.

According to Sandhu, these simple precautions not only protect individuals but also reflect a sense of responsibility towards fellow citizens and family members. He said adopting basic traffic discipline can help create a more orderly and secure urban environment.

Collective Efforts Needed for Better Traffic Flow

The Lieutenant Governor said achieving a safer and less crowded Delhi would require cooperation between authorities and the public. He stressed that long-term improvements in traffic management cannot be achieved through enforcement alone and depend heavily on citizens following rules consistently.

He further appealed to residents to support ongoing efforts aimed at building a more efficient and citizen-friendly capital city. Sandhu stated that every individual contribution, no matter how small, can help strengthen road safety and improve daily commuting conditions for millions of people.

Remarks on Urbanisation Challenges

Earlier, while addressing a recruitment ceremony organised by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Sandhu had spoken about the growing challenges faced by rapidly expanding cities. He said urban centres are dealing with increasing pressure due to population growth, environmental concerns, and rising public expectations.

The Lieutenant Governor described the current period as a transformative phase for the country and said the decisions taken today would shape India’s future by 2047. He urged officials and public institutions to work with dedication, innovation, and transparency to address these evolving challenges.

During the event, Sandhu told newly recruited DDA officials that they were joining an institution that plays a major role in shaping Delhi’s development. He said modern cities require careful planning and responsible governance to ensure sustainable growth and improved living conditions for residents.

Sandhu also highlighted the importance of administrative accountability and efficient urban planning in meeting the demands of a fast-changing society.
