RoadAccident – Five people lost their lives in a tragic road accident late Friday night after an SUV collided head-on with a trailer truck on a highway in Uttar Pradesh, according to police officials.
Accident Occurred During Return Journey
The victims were travelling back to Ranidiha village in Gorakhpur district after attending a wedding ceremony in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The journey turned fatal when their vehicle met with a devastating accident in the Doharighat police station area.
Police said the incident took place late at night when traffic was relatively light. The SUV, which had a Jharkhand registration, reportedly lost control before crossing into the opposite lane and crashing directly into an oncoming trailer truck.
Severe Impact Left Vehicle Mangled
Officials described the collision as extremely severe. The force of the crash left the SUV completely crushed, making rescue efforts difficult and time-consuming. The extent of the damage indicated a high-speed impact, though the exact speed of the vehicle is still under investigation.
Tragically, a pet dog travelling with the family also died in the accident, adding to the overall loss.
Victims Identified by Authorities
The deceased included three members of the same family. They were identified as Vinay Srivastava, 53, his wife Archana Srivastava, 48, and their son Kritarth Srivastava, 27.
Two other victims, Ravindra Yadav, 20, and Purushottam Kumar, 28, were residents of Bihar’s Gaya district and had been travelling with the family after attending the wedding.
Rescue Operation Faced Challenges
Local police teams reached the accident site soon after receiving information. Due to the condition of the vehicle, rescuers had to work extensively to retrieve the bodies. It took considerable effort to extricate the victims from the wreckage.
After recovery, all bodies were sent to the district hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. Authorities confirmed that standard procedures are being followed as part of the investigation.
Investigation Underway
Both the SUV and the trailer truck involved in the accident have been taken into custody. Officials are examining various factors, including road conditions, vehicle speed, and driver control, to determine the exact cause of the crash.
Police have not ruled out possibilities such as driver fatigue or mechanical failure but stated that conclusions will only be drawn after a detailed inquiry.
Chief Minister Expresses Condolences
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow over the incident. In an official statement, he conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased and directed authorities to ensure all necessary support is provided to them during this difficult time.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns regarding highway safety, especially during late-night travel. Accidents involving high-speed collisions continue to pose serious risks, particularly on long inter-state routes.
