ArunachalPradesh – Central Team Reviews Flood Damage Amid Continued Rainfall
ArunachalPradesh – A high-level Central team has begun assessing the widespread damage caused by flash floods, landslides and heavy rainfall across Arunachal Pradesh, while persistent rain and blocked routes continue to restrict access to several affected areas.

The eight-member Inter-Ministerial Central Team, led by Ministry of Home Affairs Joint Secretary Nishtha Tiwari, visited parts of the state to review the impact of the recent weather-related disaster. The delegation inspected damaged locations, including areas in Lower Siang district, and assured the state government of possible support from the Centre.
Difficult Weather Limits Ground Inspection
Several of the most severely affected locations could not be reached because roads remained blocked and weather conditions were unsuitable for helicopter operations. Officials said the assessment exercise was still underway and the team would cover as many accessible areas as possible.
Tiwari said satellite-based images had been provided to the state administration to help it document losses in remote regions where field visits were not currently possible. The imagery and related report could assist local authorities in preparing damage estimates for inaccessible villages and infrastructure.
She said the central delegation had travelled from New Delhi to understand the impact of heavy rain, flash floods and landslides in the state. Although the team attempted to travel towards Lower Siang, the route was found to be impassable due to the weather and road conditions.
Satellite Data to Support Damage Reports
According to Tiwari, the satellite assessment will be useful for locations cut off by rain-triggered disruptions. She noted that the visit had not concluded and that the delegation would continue its review as conditions allowed.
The state administration has been asked to use the available data while preparing reports on damaged roads, public infrastructure, homes and other losses. The final assessment is expected to depend on both field inspections and information gathered through remote monitoring.
MLA Welcomes Centre’s Response
BJP MLA Tojir Kadu said the arrival of the central team reflected a prompt response from the Union government. He said the delegation had seen the damage in the areas it could reach, though some badly hit pockets remained beyond access.
Kadu said the scale of destruction was substantial and that it would be difficult to calculate the financial impact immediately. He added that certain circles had suffered severe damage but could not be visited because of road closures and continuing rainfall.
He said the visiting officials had been able to understand the broader extent of the situation despite the restrictions on movement. Further inspections may be needed once roads are restored and weather conditions improve.
District Administration Prepares Relief Case
East Siang Deputy Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani said the district administration had completed an initial damage assessment and was working to improve its documentation for relief and compensation requirements.
She said officials were seeking guidance to make their reports more comprehensive so that affected residents and damaged infrastructure could receive appropriate assistance. Jiwani also said Koyu subdivision in Lower Siang remained cut off, while three villages in the Kora Circle of East Siang district had been isolated.
The administration is continuing to collect information from affected communities as communication and transport links are gradually restored in some areas.
IMD Issues Orange Warning
The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange warning for Arunachal Pradesh for July 10, forecasting very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning and squally winds.
Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert as rainfall may trigger further landslides, road disruptions and flooding. The central team’s assessment is continuing, with several locations still inaccessible because of the ongoing weather conditions.
