Economy – Giriraj Singh Backs Modi’s Goal for India’s Global Rise
Economy – Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Friday expressed support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s target of placing India among the world’s three largest economies, saying the country has sustained economic momentum since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking to journalists in Patna, Singh said India had remained on a strong growth path despite criticism from political opponents and other sceptics. He credited the Modi government’s policies for helping the country retain its position among the fastest-growing major economies.
Singh said the government’s development agenda had continued to move forward through difficult global conditions. According to him, India’s economic performance since the pandemic reflected the leadership and policy direction of the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Highlights Development Goals
The minister’s comments followed Prime Minister Modi’s address to members of the Indian community at the Melbourne Meets Modi programme in Australia. During the event, Modi said India’s ambition to become one of the top three economies was linked to the country’s broader development journey.
He said the country was working towards the goal of becoming a developed nation in the 21st century. Modi noted that each milestone achieved by the country created fresh ambitions and encouraged people to work towards larger national objectives.
Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said India’s population of 1.4 billion people carried strong aspirations for the future. He described the country’s approach with the phrase “Grow More, Achieve More,” saying India was seeking faster progress across economic and social sectors.
Technology and Transport Expansion
Modi also referred to recent developments in technology and infrastructure. He said India had become the world’s second-largest 5G market and was making progress in the development of home-grown 6G technology.
The Prime Minister highlighted the growth of metro rail systems, saying services had expanded to more than two dozen cities. India’s metro network, he said, had become the third largest in the world as urban transport projects continued to increase.
He also mentioned the expansion of rail connectivity through semi-high-speed services, including Vande Bharat trains and the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail network. These projects are part of the government’s wider effort to improve travel links between cities and strengthen transport infrastructure.
India-Australia Partnership Expands
Prime Minister Modi is on an official three-day visit to Australia from July 8 to July 10. The visit has focused on strengthening bilateral engagement between the two countries across strategic and economic sectors.
India and Australia announced 18 outcomes during the visit, covering areas such as defence, maritime security, energy, critical technologies, education, mining, research and cultural cooperation.
The announcements are expected to further deepen the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Both countries have been increasing cooperation in areas linked to regional security, clean energy, technology and trade.
The Prime Minister’s visit and the new agreements underline the growing importance of India-Australia relations as both nations seek wider collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
