Elections – Myanmar’s former civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi has held her first publicly disclosed meeting with a foreign representative since being removed from power during the military takeover in 2021. According to a statement issued by the country’s president’s office on Monday, she met Arnaud de Baecque, the resident representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Myanmar. The meeting marks the first known official interaction between Suu Kyi and an international official since her detention more than four years ago.

The president’s office announced that Arnaud de Baecque met Aung San Suu Kyi earlier in the day. Although authorities confirmed that the meeting took place, no details were released regarding the topics discussed or the duration of the conversation. Detention Followed Military Takeover
Myanmar’s military removed the elected government from office in February 2021, ending a decade of limited democratic reforms.
