Delhi Weather – Rain Alerts Continue Across North India as Monsoon Advances

Delhi Weather – Residents across Delhi-NCR experienced a calmer start to Friday, with overcast skies, cooler winds and lower humidity bringing a brief break after two days of persistent rain. The respite may be short-lived, however, as the India Meteorological Department has warned of another round of heavy showers in parts of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Delhi rain alerts monsoon advance

Orange Alert Issued for Delhi

The IMD has placed Delhi under an orange alert, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall during the day. Rain intensity in the national capital is expected to reduce from July 11, according to the weather department’s latest forecast.

The advisory comes after widespread rain affected normal movement in Delhi and surrounding cities over the past two days. Waterlogging was reported in several low-lying areas, while commuters faced slow traffic on key roads during peak hours.

Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram Face Disruptions

Noida and Ghaziabad recorded prolonged spells of rain that led to flooded roads and traffic congestion in several locations. In Gurugram, long queues of vehicles were seen on major routes as water accumulated on roads and underpasses.

The situation prompted a number of private companies in Gurugram to allow employees to work from home. Authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rain and to remain alert for local advisories.

Heavy Rain Warning for Uttar Pradesh Districts

The IMD has issued red and orange rainfall alerts for several districts in Uttar Pradesh. A red alert has been announced for Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Moradabad, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Badaun, Sambhal and Jyotiba Phule Nagar, where extremely heavy rainfall may occur.

Orange alerts have been issued for Sitapur, Hardoi, Bulandshahr, Saharanpur, Kushinagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Shahjahanpur and Hapur. Residents in these districts have been advised to monitor weather updates and follow directions issued by local authorities.

The alert system is intended to help district administrations prepare for possible flooding, waterlogging, disruption to transport services and other rain-related concerns.

Rainfall Expected to Ease in Maharashtra

Rain activity is likely to weaken across much of Maharashtra on Friday, with light showers forecast in several areas. Despite the expected reduction in rainfall, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Pune and Satara.

A yellow alert remains in force for Raigad, Kolhapur, Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Nagpur, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli. The weather department has advised people in these districts to remain cautious, particularly in areas vulnerable to water accumulation or local flooding.

Mumbai and nearby regions, which have experienced frequent monsoon showers in recent days, may see relatively less intense rain compared with earlier spells.

Southwest Monsoon Covers Entire Country

In a separate update, the IMD said the Southwest Monsoon has advanced into the remaining parts of the north Arabian Sea, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab. With this development, the monsoon covered the entire country on July 9.

The seasonal advance was completed one day later than the normal date of July 8. The arrival of the monsoon across the country marks the end of its annual progression from southern India towards northern and northwestern regions.

Weather officials have advised people to keep track of local forecasts, especially in districts under red, orange and yellow alerts, as rainfall patterns may change quickly during the monsoon season.
