Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar: won’t see a cold wave till December 16; IMD Forecasts Dry Weather
Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar: districts are under a no-cold wave advisory till Tuesday, December 16, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The area is anticipated to have dry weather over the following several days, with no cold wave requirements being satisfied, according to the weather prediction issued on December 12. IMD has issued cold wave warnings for Jalgaon, the Nashik Ghats, and Ahilyanagar, however Mumbai and its surrounding districts are still outside the cold wave zone. According to IMD guidelines, a cold wave is only deemed to exist when minimum temperatures at two stations drop below 15°C and stay at least 5°C below the seasonal average for two days in a row. Mumbai has not yet experienced this circumstance.

Mumbai experienced a distinct chill on Thursday, even though there was no official cold wave signal. A minimum temperature of 15.6°C was recorded at the IMD’s Santacruz observatory, which is representative of suburban Mumbai. This is 3.2°C below the seasonal average and lower than Wednesday’s 16.7°C. The Colaba observatory in south Mumbai, on the other hand, recorded a lowest temperature of 20.9°C, which was 0.8°C below average.
Many Mumbaikars have joked that the city has momentarily taken on the feel of a hill station due to the unusual chill in the air. Matheran, a neighboring vacation resort, recorded a low temperature of just 17°C, which added to this impression. On Wednesday, December 10, the Shivajinagar region of Mumbai recorded a severe 8.1°C, the city’s lowest temperature of the winter season 2025. Although it was still not chilly enough to issue a cold wave notice, the meteorological service said that conditions seemed much colder on Thursday. Overall, IMD maintains that no cold wave conditions are anticipated in Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar till December 16, despite the fact that locals continue to be surprised by cooler-than-normal mornings.
