Weather Alert – Powerful Storms and Rain Bring Relief Across Uttar Pradesh
Weather Alert – Residents across several districts of Uttar Pradesh experienced a dramatic shift in weather conditions as strong winds, heavy rainfall, and hailstorms replaced the intense heat that had gripped the region during the ongoing Nautapa period.

The sudden change occurred during the early hours of Friday when thunderstorms swept through multiple districts, including Lucknow, Agra, Kanpur, Chitrakoot, Hardoi, Sambhal, Bijnor, and Sitapur. The downpour, accompanied by gusty winds, provided much-needed relief from the prolonged spell of extreme temperatures that had affected daily life across the state.
Storm Activity Causes Widespread Impact
Several areas witnessed severe weather conditions, with reports of hailstorms emerging from different districts. Significant hail accumulation was reported in Badaun and parts of Sitapur district, particularly Khairabad. Strong winds damaged infrastructure in some locations, uprooting trees and bringing down roadside hoardings.
The continuous rainfall, which lasted for nearly an hour in several places, helped lower temperatures considerably. Residents welcomed the cooler conditions after enduring days of scorching heat and uncomfortable weather.
IMD Issues Red Alert for Multiple Districts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and heavy rainfall across several districts between May 29 and May 30. Weather officials have warned that certain regions may experience wind speeds reaching up to 90 kilometres per hour.
Districts such as Muzaffarnagar, Etah, Shamli, Shahjahanpur, and Bareilly remain under heightened weather surveillance. According to meteorological observations, wind speeds between 60 and 70 kilometres per hour were recorded in various parts of the state during recent storm activity.
Government Reviews Damage and Relief Measures
State authorities have begun assessing the impact of the adverse weather. Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reviewed reports related to casualties, livestock losses, and property damage linked to heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning incidents.
The Chief Minister expressed sympathy for families affected by the weather-related incidents and directed district administrations to ensure prompt relief, rescue, and assistance efforts. Officials have also been instructed to closely monitor affected regions and provide necessary support wherever required.
Agra and Other Districts Witness Sudden Weather Shift
In Agra, weather conditions changed rapidly around midnight as dark clouds, thunderstorms, and intense showers transformed the atmosphere. The rainfall brought a noticeable drop in temperature, creating more comfortable conditions after days of persistent heat.
Similar scenes were reported from Chitrakoot, Hardoi, and surrounding districts, where residents experienced relief from rising temperatures. The unexpected weather change was welcomed by many people who had been struggling with the severe summer heat.
Safety Advisory for Residents
The weather department has urged residents to remain cautious during periods of thunderstorm and lightning activity. Authorities recommend staying indoors whenever possible and avoiding shelter under weak structures, ageing trees, billboards, and electric poles.
People have also been advised not to use electrical appliances during lightning strikes and to avoid open spaces where the risk of lightning impact is higher. Safety officials have stressed the importance of following weather advisories issued by local administrations.
Precautions During Hailstorms and Heavy Rain
Citizens have been warned against standing near ponds, lakes, and other water bodies during severe weather events. During hailstorms, residents should protect themselves from falling ice and move animals and pets to secure locations.
Authorities have additionally advised people to stay away from waterlogged roads, damaged power infrastructure, and fallen electrical wires. Emergency services remain on alert as weather conditions continue to be monitored across the state.
