Uttar Pradesh Elections – Chirag Paswan Focuses on Expanding Party Base Ahead of State Polls
Uttar Pradesh Elections – Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan is set to chair the party’s State Executive Committee meeting in Lucknow on Wednesday, where senior leaders are expected to finalise plans for strengthening the organisation and preparing for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The meeting is also likely to review future political programmes and discuss the party’s roadmap in the state.

Organisational expansion takes centre stage
The executive committee meeting, scheduled to begin at 10:30 am, is expected to focus on expanding the party’s presence across Uttar Pradesh. Party leaders will deliberate on strategies to build a stronger grassroots network, increase organisational outreach, and prepare workers for the electoral challenges ahead. The discussions are also expected to cover campaign planning and other activities aimed at enhancing the party’s visibility in the state before the assembly polls next year.
Party confirms intention to contest Uttar Pradesh elections
Earlier this month, on July 5, Chirag Paswan announced that the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) plans to participate in the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. He clarified that decisions regarding alliances, seat-sharing arrangements, and the number of constituencies the party will contest would be determined by the Uttar Pradesh unit. The final decision, he said, will require approval from the party’s central parliamentary board.
Paswan also stated that the organisation is pursuing a nationwide expansion strategy and considers Uttar Pradesh an important part of that effort. According to him, strengthening the party’s structure in the state remains one of its key priorities in the coming months.
Ram Vilas Paswan birth anniversary to be observed in Lucknow
The party has also decided to hold this year’s birth anniversary programme of its founder, the late Ram Vilas Paswan, in Lucknow. Chirag Paswan said the event reflects the party’s growing focus on Uttar Pradesh and its commitment to increasing organisational engagement in the state.
The celebration is expected to bring together party leaders and workers from different regions, providing another opportunity to reinforce the party’s expansion plans ahead of the elections.
Uttar Pradesh prepares for next Assembly election
The Uttar Pradesh Assembly election is scheduled to take place next year, making it one of the country’s most closely watched political contests. Major political parties have already begun organisational activities and strategic planning as preparations gather momentum.
In the 2022 Assembly election, the Bharatiya Janata Party retained power by securing 255 seats in the 403-member Assembly with a vote share of 41.29 percent. Although the party recorded an even bigger victory in 2017 by winning 312 seats, it maintained its position as the ruling party in the subsequent election.
Political landscape remains competitive
The state’s political environment continues to witness active competition among major parties. The Samajwadi Party and the Congress have worked together in previous elections, including the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
While their alliance was unable to stop the BJP from retaining power in the 2017 Assembly election, the partnership delivered improved results in the 2024 parliamentary polls. The Samajwadi Party won 37 Lok Sabha seats, while the Congress secured six seats, making the alliance a significant force in the national election from Uttar Pradesh.
With preparations for the next Assembly election gaining pace, political parties are expected to intensify organisational efforts, outreach programmes, and electoral planning across the state in the months ahead.
