Police Operation Leads to Arrests

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Sadar Circle Officer Priya Singh said the police had been actively pursuing those linked to a theft reported on the night of June 29 within the jurisdiction of the Bhel outpost under Babina Police Station. A formal case was registered soon after the incident, and investigators had been working continuously to identify those responsible and trace the missing valuables.

She explained that the operation was conducted jointly by officers from Babina Police Station and the Special Operations Group after gathering information about the suspects’ movements. During the attempt to apprehend them, the accused allegedly fired at the police team. Officers responded in self-defence, resulting in one of the suspects sustaining an injury to his leg before both men were taken into custody.

Accused Identified by Police

Police identified the injured suspect as Kader, a resident of Dholpura in Rajasthan. The second accused, identified as Riyasat, belongs to Jalaun district in Uttar Pradesh. Officials described both individuals as habitual offenders with previous criminal records.

Authorities stated that further questioning of the accused is expected to help investigators determine whether they were involved in other theft-related incidents in the region.

Stolen Jewellery and Weapon Recovered

During the operation, police recovered gold and silver jewellery believed to have been stolen from the Babina Police Station area. Officers also seized Rs 3,350 in cash, an illegal .315 bore firearm, two spent cartridges, and one live cartridge from the possession of the accused.

The recovery of these items is considered an important development in the investigation, as officials continue efforts to identify the rightful owners of the recovered valuables and establish the full sequence of events linked to the theft case.

Injured Suspect Under Medical Care

Following the encounter, the injured accused was shifted to a hospital for medical treatment under police supervision. At the same time, a forensic team visited the location where the exchange of fire occurred to collect evidence and document the scene.

Police officials said the investigation remains ongoing, and additional legal proceedings will continue based on the evidence collected during the operation.

Similar Police Encounter Reported in Mathura

In another recent development from Uttar Pradesh, Mathura Police arrested two alleged history-sheeters who were also wanted in a murder case after a separate police encounter earlier this week.

According to officials, the suspects allegedly opened fire while trying to escape from the police team. Officers responded in self-defence, during which both accused sustained bullet injuries to their left legs. They were subsequently taken into custody and admitted to the district hospital for treatment.

Police said the action was taken to prevent the accused from escaping and to ensure the safety of the officers involved in the operation. Investigations in both the Jhansi and Mathura cases are continuing as authorities gather further evidence and complete the required legal procedures.
