Elections –Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has indicated that the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections are expected to take place as scheduled in 2027, bringing relief to political parties that had been dealing with uncertainty over reports of possible early polls. His remarks have helped reduce speculation that had intensified in recent weeks and prompted parties to reconsider their electoral strategies.
Election Schedule Expected to Remain Unchanged
Speaking to journalists in New Delhi, the Chief Election Commissioner said the constitutional timeline for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections remains the guiding principle. He noted that if administrative requirements arise, the population census planned for February 2027 could be extended to ensure the electoral process continues without disruption. Kumar also observed that widespread speculation about advancing the elections had created avoidable pressure on political parties, emphasizing that the Election Commission intends to conduct the polls according to the constitutional schedule unless exceptional circumstances require otherwise.
The clarification is being viewed as an important development because several political parties had been preparing for different possibilities amid growing discussions about an early election. A separate political controversy has emerged following comments made by senior Samajwadi Party leader and former Member of Parliament S. T. Hasan regarding Lord Ram and Lord Krishna. His remarks came shortly after an earlier statement by a Muslim cleric from Etawah concerning Lord Krishna had generated widespread discussion.
Hasan said that some Islamic scholars have expressed the belief that Lord Ram and Lord Krishna could have been among the prophets mentioned in Islamic traditions. He added that historical interpretations have evolved over time while describing both figures as respected and influential personalities.
The comments quickly attracted attention and are likely to fuel further political debate. Hasan, who was not fielded by the Samajwadi Party from the Moradabad Lok Sabha constituency during the 2024 general election, has remained a prominent voice within the party despite political differences in recent years.
Supreme Court Approval Clears Path for Night Safari

The ambitious project will be developed in the Kukrail Reserve Forest and is expected to become the country’s first night safari while also ranking among the world’s largest facilities of its kind.
The Forest Department is preparing to formally inform the Public Works Department that the project has received judicial clearance, allowing the next phase of development to move forward. Officials are expected to initiate infrastructure and planning work in the coming months.

The upcoming night safari aims to offer visitors an opportunity to observe wildlife during the hours when many species are naturally active. Several carnivorous animals are nocturnal, while others are most active during twilight. The project has been designed to recreate low-light conditions, enabling visitors to experience animal behaviour in settings that closely resemble their natural habitat.
Officials believe the safari will strengthen wildlife tourism in Uttar Pradesh while also promoting environmental awareness and conservation. Once completed, the project is expected to become a major attraction for tourists, researchers, and wildlife enthusiasts, adding a new dimension to the state’s tourism infrastructure.
