Women’s Cricket – India Women made an impressive start to the three-match series by registering a convincing 38-run victory over England Women, combining strong batting, disciplined bowling, and efficient fielding to claim a 1-0 advantage.

After the match, captain Smriti Mandhana expressed satisfaction with the overall performance but felt her side could have added a few more runs to the total despite a strong finish with the bat. She noted that the team had opportunities to push the score further and believed an additional 10 runs would have strengthened their position even more.

Captain Highlights Importance of Reading Conditions

Mandhana also pointed out that getting an early understanding of the pitch and match conditions played a significant role in the team’s success. According to her, spending time in the field first helped the players assess how the surface was behaving and allowed the batting unit to approach the innings with greater clarity.

The skipper credited the players for adapting well to the conditions and making informed decisions throughout the contest. She emphasized that the team remained composed under pressure and executed plans effectively in both innings.

Crucial Partnership Lays Foundation

India faced an early setback after losing Mandhana near the beginning of their innings. However, the middle order responded positively with an outstanding partnership between Yastika Bhatia and Jemimah Rodrigues.

Yastika played an aggressive knock of 54 runs from 40 deliveries, keeping the scoreboard moving with regular boundaries. At the other end, Rodrigues anchored the innings brilliantly, producing a fluent 69 from just 40 balls. Their partnership helped India regain momentum and build a strong platform.

Additional contributions from Deepti Sharma and other lower-order batters in the closing overs ensured that India reached a competitive total of 188 for 7 by the end of their innings.

England Bowlers Show Fight

Despite ending on the losing side, England received encouraging performances from their bowling attack. Lauren Bell emerged as the standout bowler, claiming three important wickets and applying pressure during key phases of the innings.

Tilly Corteen-Coleman also delivered a disciplined spell during the middle overs, helping England slow India’s scoring rate and preventing the batting side from completely dominating proceedings.

Nandni Sharma Stars With Ball

Chasing 189 for victory, England struggled to establish momentum after losing wickets early in the innings. Although Amy Jones attempted to revive the chase with a determined 67 off 48 balls, regular breakthroughs prevented the hosts from building substantial partnerships.

Heather Knight offered brief support, but India’s bowlers consistently maintained control. Young pacer Nandni Sharma emerged as the game’s standout performer with figures of 3 for 23. Her timely wickets shifted the contest firmly in India’s favour and disrupted England’s hopes of mounting a successful chase.

Mandhana praised the youngster’s competitive spirit and energy, highlighting her ability to deliver crucial overs under pressure. Nandni’s impactful spell was complemented by Kranti Gaud, who struck early, while Deepti Sharma provided valuable control through the middle stages of the innings.

India Take Early Advantage in Series

As the chase progressed, England found it increasingly difficult to keep up with the required scoring rate. India’s bowlers maintained disciplined lines and lengths, while sharp fielding efforts further restricted scoring opportunities.

England eventually finished 38 runs short of the target, handing India a comprehensive victory. The result reflected a complete team effort, with meaningful contributions from both experienced players and emerging talents. With the win, India Women move ahead 1-0 in the three-match series and will look to build on their momentum in the upcoming fixtures.
