Operation Safed Sagar –  The premiere of Netflix’s latest web series Operation Safed Sagar brought together government leaders, military officials, and the creative team to celebrate a production that highlights the Indian Air Force’s contribution during the 1999 Kargil War. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the makers through a recorded message, describing the series as a meaningful tribute to one of the country’s most significant military operations. He said the production successfully recreates a defining moment in India’s defence history while preserving the courage and determination displayed by the nation’s air warriors. According to him, the series not only revisits an important chapter from the conflict but also ensures that its legacy reaches younger audiences through a modern storytelling platform.

Rajnath Singh Highlights Historic Air Force Achievement

In his address, the Defence Minister noted that the Indian Air Force achieved something unprecedented during Operation Safed Sagar by conducting combat missions at extreme altitudes ranging from 15,000 to 18,000 feet. He remarked that such operations had never been attempted by any air force before 1999, making the mission a remarkable milestone in military aviation. Singh said the web series captures the bravery, professionalism, and determination of the personnel who participated in the campaign, allowing viewers to better understand the challenges faced during the conflict.

He also observed that presenting this lesser-known aspect of the Kargil War on a global streaming platform reflects the growing reach of Indian stories. According to him, introducing international audiences to this chapter of Indian military history is an important achievement in itself.

Makers Receive Appreciation for Research and Authenticity

Rajnath Singh commended the producers, writers, director, and the broader creative team for handling the subject with care and historical accuracy. He acknowledged the contributions of producers Sanjay Routray, Sarita Patil, Abhijeet Singh Parmar, and Kushal Shrivastava, while extending special praise to director Oni Sen for his vision.

The Defence Minister stated that recreating a military operation on screen requires detailed research, technical expertise, and a responsible approach. He said the production team had demonstrated those qualities throughout the project and expressed confidence that the series would encourage younger generations to learn more about the sacrifices made by India’s armed forces.

Sanjay Seth Says Series Can Inspire Future Generations

Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth also shared a message during the premiere, calling Operation Safed Sagar an inspiring portrayal of the dedication shown by India’s defence personnel. He congratulated the cast, crew, and everyone associated with the project for bringing the story to audiences.

Seth said the series has the potential to motivate young viewers by showcasing the commitment and courage of the armed forces. He expressed hope that such stories would encourage more young Indians to consider serving the nation through military careers, adding that the values highlighted in the production could strengthen respect and appreciation for the country’s defence services.

Netflix Praises India’s Growing Production Standards

Netflix Co-Chief Executive Officer Ted Sarandos addressed the gathering and highlighted the scale of the production. He said the series reflects India’s expanding creative talent, technical capability, and production quality, demonstrating that the country can produce content that matches international standards.

Sarandos noted that projects of this scale showcase the maturity of India’s entertainment industry and reinforce its ability to deliver stories capable of reaching audiences around the world.

Premiere Held in New Delhi Ahead of Global Release

The grand premiere of Operation Safed Sagar took place at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, where senior military officials, government representatives, and members of the production team attended the event. The series explores the Indian Air Force’s role during the Kargil War, focusing on a part of the conflict that has received relatively limited attention in mainstream screen adaptations.

Featuring Jimmy Shergill, Siddharth, Abhay Verma, Prajakta Koli, Mihir Ahuja, and Dia Mirza, Operation Safed Sagar is scheduled to begin streaming on Netflix from August 7, bringing the story of the Indian Air Force’s wartime mission to viewers in India and across the world.
