Rankings –  England batter Harry Brook has reclaimed the top position in the latest ICC Men’s Test batting rankings, overtaking teammate Joe Root after a strong performance in England’s recent World Test Championship fixture against New Zealand.

Brook’s rise comes after he contributed a valuable half-century during the first innings of the opening Test at Lord’s. The match, which was dominated by bowlers, ended with England securing a convincing 115-run victory. His latest performance was enough to help him regain the No. 1 ranking, a position he previously held in late 2024.

Root Slips After Quiet Outing

Former world No. 1 Joe Root has dropped down the rankings after a disappointing match against New Zealand. The experienced batter scored only one run in the first innings and added eight in the second, allowing Brook to move ahead in the standings.

Meanwhile, Australia’s Travis Head has climbed into second place among Test batters. Root now occupies third position as attention shifts to the second Test between England and New Zealand, scheduled to begin at The Oval on June 17.

Gill and Duckett Make Significant Progress

Several players recorded notable gains in the latest batting rankings. India’s Shubman Gill advanced two places to move into eighth position after producing an impressive century in his recent outing against Afghanistan.

England opener Ben Duckett also enjoyed a positive jump, moving up three places to 15th. His teammate Jamie Smith continued his upward trajectory by gaining five spots to reach 23rd place.

New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips was among the biggest movers in the batting chart. His performances during the Lord’s Test helped him climb 15 places, taking him into the top 40.

Bowling Rankings See Major Changes

England fast bowler Gus Atkinson was rewarded for his recent performances with a significant rise in the Test bowling rankings. He climbed seven positions to break into the top 10 and now sits 10th overall.

Atkinson also improved his standing among Test all-rounders, moving up two places to sixth position.

Elsewhere, New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson and England seamer Ollie Robinson returned to the Test bowling rankings after lengthy absences from red-ball cricket. Jamieson is now ranked 22nd, while Robinson occupies the 23rd position.

Another New Zealand bowler, Nathan Smith, made substantial progress by advancing 16 places to reach 43rd in the latest list.

Pakistan Stars Shine in ODI Rankings

The latest ODI rankings also featured several notable changes following Pakistan’s successful series against Australia.

Spinner Abrar Ahmed emerged as one of the biggest gainers after collecting six wickets during the series. His impressive spell elevated him to second place among ODI bowlers.

Pakistan teammate Shaheen Shah Afridi also moved upward, climbing four positions to ninth after claiming seven wickets across the series.

Australia’s Nathan Ellis enjoyed a rise of 13 places to reach 31st position, while Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana surged 23 spots to secure 24th place following strong performances in Mirpur.

Batters Gain Ground in One-Day Format

Among ODI batters, Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis continued his steady rise and now sits 12th in the rankings. Fellow Sri Lankan Janith Liyanage also made progress, climbing to 22nd place.

Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan was another player to benefit from recent performances, moving up to 33rd position in the latest update.

With several international series producing standout individual displays, the newest ICC rankings reflect a competitive period across both Test and One-Day International cricket, with movement continuing among many of the sport’s leading players.
