YouthParliament – Om Birla to Launch National Youth Democracy Initiative in New Delhi
YouthParliament – Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is set to inaugurate the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026 on Tuesday, marking the beginning of a national platform designed to encourage young citizens to actively engage with democratic institutions and governance. The initiative seeks to provide participants with practical exposure to parliamentary procedures while fostering awareness about policymaking and public leadership.

National Platform for Emerging Young Leaders
Organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament has evolved into a significant programme aimed at bringing the voices, ideas, and ambitions of young Indians into broader national discussions. The event serves as an opportunity for youth from different regions of the country to contribute to conversations surrounding India’s long-term development goals.
This year’s national event is being held in New Delhi from June 15 to June 17. Building upon previous editions, the programme focuses on strengthening civic awareness and encouraging informed participation in democratic processes. Organisers believe the initiative will help nurture a new generation of responsible and engaged citizens.
Multi-Level Selection Process
The Youth Parliament programme follows a structured format consisting of three stages: District Nodal Rounds, State Rounds, and the National Round. Participants progress through these levels based on their performance and engagement.
The ongoing National Round has brought together outstanding delegates representing all States and Union Territories. These selected participants will take part in a series of activities designed to simulate parliamentary discussions and decision-making processes.
Discussions Focused on Inclusive Development
One of the key segments of the event will be the Opening Remarks session. During this activity, a representative from each participating team will address the assembly for three minutes. The discussions will revolve around the theme “Nari Shakti Vandan: Catalysing Inclusivity and Viksit Bharat 2047,” highlighting the role of women’s empowerment in India’s development journey.
The programme also includes a dedicated Question Hour, mirroring a key parliamentary practice. Participants will be given an opportunity to raise questions and respond to them within a structured format. Organisers say the exercise is intended to encourage critical thinking, constructive dialogue, and collaborative problem-solving among young delegates.
Training in Public Speaking and Leadership
As part of efforts to strengthen communication skills, the event will feature a special masterclass conducted by a distinguished personality. The session will focus on public speaking, effective communication, and leadership development, equipping participants with valuable skills that can support their future academic, professional, and civic engagements.
The organisers view this component as an important addition to the programme, helping young participants build confidence while learning how to present ideas effectively in public forums.
Exposure to India’s Democratic Heritage
Alongside parliamentary simulations and discussions, delegates will also gain firsthand exposure to India’s political and democratic legacy. Participants are scheduled to visit the PM Sangrahalaya, where they will learn about the contributions of the country’s prime ministers and key milestones in India’s governance journey.
In addition, the delegates will tour the new Parliament building, providing them with a closer understanding of the institution that serves as the centre of India’s democratic framework.
Awards to Conclude Three-Day Event
The three-day programme will conclude on June 17 with the presentation of the Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026 Awards. The awards will recognise participants who have demonstrated exceptional performance, leadership qualities, and meaningful contributions during the event.
Officials believe that the ideas and discussions emerging from the programme will continue to inspire young citizens to play an active role in shaping India’s future as the country progresses toward its long-term development vision for 2047.
