YogaCampaign – Andhra Pradesh Launches Statewide Wellness Drive Ahead of Yoga Day
YogaCampaign – The Andhra Pradesh government has officially launched Yogandhra-2026, a large-scale wellness initiative designed to encourage widespread participation in yoga ahead of International Yoga Day on June 21. The programme commenced on Sunday and witnessed enthusiastic involvement from citizens across the State, with registration numbers rising rapidly through the dedicated Yogandhra portal.

Strong Public Response on Opening Day
According to Health and Family Welfare Commissioner G. Veerapandian, more than 25,000 people registered for the campaign on its first day. The two-week initiative has been planned as a statewide movement with the ambitious objective of engaging nearly one crore residents in yoga-related activities, training sessions, and awareness programmes.
The official inauguration took place at the historic Lepakshi Temple in Sri Sathya Sai district. Addressing participants at the event, Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav highlighted yoga’s significance in India’s cultural heritage and stressed its role in promoting both physical fitness and mental well-being. He encouraged people from all age groups to make yoga a regular part of their daily routine.
Extensive Training Programme Underway
As part of the campaign, the government aims to prepare approximately 2.5 lakh yoga practitioners with support from certified master trainers. Training activities began immediately, with thousands of participants joining introductory sessions across different districts.
Officials reported that 5,992 trainees completed their initial enrolment and training process during the weekend. In addition, more than 50,000 individuals received guidance from senior trainers on Sunday, reflecting the scale and momentum of the programme during its early stages.
Events Organised at Prominent Locations
Several district-level yoga sessions were conducted at well-known public and cultural sites. The gathering at Lepakshi Temple attracted 1,952 participants, while programmes were also organised at Vontimitta Kodandarama Temple in Kadapa, Manginapudi Beach in Krishna district, and the SV Zoo Park in Tirupati.
These venues served as focal points for public engagement, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to participate in guided yoga exercises and wellness activities. The events were designed to increase awareness about the benefits of yoga while encouraging community involvement.
Competitions Introduced Across Local Bodies
To further strengthen participation, yoga-themed competitions began across 253 village and ward secretariats on Sunday. Around 1,700 individuals took part in the opening phase of these contests.
Authorities stated that the competitions will continue over the next 13 days, focusing on different dimensions of yoga practice, including discipline, flexibility, mindfulness, and healthy living. Organisers believe these activities will help sustain public interest throughout the campaign period.
Educational Institutions Join the Initiative
The government has also extended the programme to educational institutions. All government medical colleges have been instructed to conduct yoga-related activities until June 20. Students are expected to actively participate in the sessions, and institutions have been directed to submit detailed reports by June 22.
With registrations continuing to increase and training programmes expanding across districts, Yogandhra-2026 is steadily emerging as one of India’s most extensive public yoga outreach efforts. The initiative seeks not only to celebrate International Yoga Day but also to encourage long-term adoption of healthy lifestyle practices among citizens throughout Andhra Pradesh.
