WeatherUpdate – Rain and Hail Bring Relief as Temperatures Drop Across Madhya Pradesh
WeatherUpdate – After several days of scorching heat, residents across many parts of Madhya Pradesh finally experienced a welcome change in weather on Friday as thunderstorms and rainfall swept through different districts. The sudden shift brought significant relief from the intense summer conditions that had dominated the state during the ongoing Nautapa period. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), similar weather activity is expected to continue on Saturday, with rain and hail likely in several regions.

Orange Alert Issued for Nine Districts
The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for nine districts, warning of rainfall, thunderstorms, and possible hailstorm activity. The districts placed under alert include Gwalior, Bhind, Datia, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Panna, Neemuch, and Mandsaur. Authorities have advised residents in these areas to remain cautious, especially during periods of strong winds and lightning.
Meteorologists stated that the changing weather pattern is linked to atmospheric conditions that have developed over central India, creating favorable conditions for rain-bearing clouds. The forecast indicates that intermittent showers and storm activity may continue over the next few days in several parts of the state.
Sharp Fall Recorded in Daytime Temperatures
The rainfall had an immediate impact on temperatures across Madhya Pradesh. Many cities witnessed a notable decline in daytime temperatures, bringing conditions closer to seasonal comfort levels. On the fifth day of Nautapa, maximum temperatures in several locations remained below the 40-degree Celsius mark.
Among the most significant changes were recorded in Gwalior and Datia. Gwalior registered a temperature drop of 10.2 degrees Celsius, bringing the maximum temperature down to 34.5 degrees Celsius. Datia also witnessed a sharp decline of 10.1 degrees Celsius, with the temperature settling at 35.6 degrees Celsius. Similar cooling trends were observed in other districts that received rainfall during the day.
Nautapa Heat Wave Gives Way to Unstable Weather
The current weather shift comes after an extended period of extreme heat across Madhya Pradesh. Since the beginning of Nautapa on May 25, several regions had been experiencing unusually high temperatures. Before the arrival of rain, many districts faced severe heat wave conditions, with some locations reporting temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius.
Khajuraho and Nowgong were among the hottest places in the state, consistently recording temperatures exceeding 47 degrees Celsius since mid-May. The combination of intense heat and dry conditions had raised concerns among residents and local authorities.
Friday’s rainfall marked a noticeable transition from those harsh conditions, replacing dry heat with cloud cover, gusty winds, and precipitation in several areas.
Further Rain Expected Across the State
Weather officials have indicated that while some districts may continue to experience elevated temperatures on May 30, broader rainfall activity is expected to expand across the state. The changing weather pattern could help moderate temperatures further and provide additional relief from the summer heat.
Experts also note that prolonged extreme temperatures can affect livestock and wildlife, making the recent drop in temperatures beneficial beyond human comfort. With weather systems remaining active, authorities will continue monitoring conditions and issuing updates as needed.
For now, residents in rain-affected districts are enjoying a temporary break from the intense heat that characterized the early days of Nautapa, while keeping an eye on forecasts for further storm activity.
