WeatherAlert – Heavy Rain Forecast Across Several Tamil Nadu Districts
WeatherAlert – A fresh spell of widespread rain is expected to affect several parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry over the coming days after the India Meteorological Department warned of intensified weather activity linked to an active atmospheric circulation system.

The weather department said a trough stretching from the southeast Arabian Sea towards the central Bay of Bengal is currently influencing climatic conditions across the southern region. Because of this system, many districts are likely to continue receiving moderate to heavy showers through the week.
Heavy Rain Warning Issued for Five Districts
The IMD has identified Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Theni, Erode, and Dindigul districts as the areas most likely to receive heavy rainfall on Thursday. Officials stated that hilly and nearby regions in these districts could witness intense spells of rain during the day.
Authorities have urged residents living in vulnerable areas to remain alert as heavy showers may trigger temporary flooding, traffic congestion, and disruptions in low-lying locations. People travelling through ghat roads and hillside routes have also been advised to exercise caution due to the possibility of slippery conditions and reduced visibility.
Nilgiris and Hill Regions Expected to Receive Intense Showers
Among the affected districts, the Nilgiris is expected to experience particularly strong rainfall, a pattern commonly observed whenever similar weather systems become active over the state. Weather officials noted that the hill belts of Coimbatore, Theni, and Dindigul may also record isolated heavy downpours capable of affecting day-to-day activities.
Local administrations are monitoring the situation closely in districts where rain-related incidents such as landslides and water accumulation are more likely during prolonged wet conditions.
More Districts Likely to See Rainfall on Friday
According to the latest forecast, rainfall activity is expected to expand further on Friday. Several interior districts including Salem, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Namakkal, and Tiruchy may experience strong rain accompanied by gusty winds.
The IMD has also predicted similar conditions for Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Erode, and Nilgiris districts. Intermittent showers and cloudy skies are expected to continue in many regions as the atmospheric system remains active.
Officials explained that changing wind patterns and moisture movement from surrounding seas are contributing to the unstable weather conditions currently being observed across the state.
Relief From Heat Likely in Interior Areas
The expected rainfall could bring some relief from the intense summer temperatures that have affected several inland districts over recent weeks. Cooler conditions are likely in areas receiving continuous rain and cloud cover.
However, weather experts cautioned that isolated places may still witness short periods of heavy rain along with strong surface winds. Residents have been encouraged to stay updated through official forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense weather activity.
Chennai Expected to Remain Hot and Humid
While many districts prepare for rainfall, Chennai is likely to continue experiencing warm and humid conditions. Forecasts indicate that daytime temperatures in the city could remain close to 40 degrees Celsius despite rain activity in other parts of Tamil Nadu.
The combination of high humidity and elevated temperatures may keep discomfort levels high for residents in the capital city. Authorities have advised the public to remain hydrated and follow weather advisories issued over the next few days.
