Weather – Widespread Rain Forecast Across India as Delhi Faces Severe Waterlogging
Weather – Widespread rainfall is expected across several regions of India on Saturday, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting heavy showers, thunderstorms and strong winds in multiple areas.
The latest forecast issued by the IMD on Friday night indicates that several parts of the country could experience heavy to very heavy rain. Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable locations to remain alert as intense showers may lead to waterlogging, flooding, traffic problems and other weather-related disruptions.
Northern States Brace for More Rain
Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall on Saturday. Similar conditions are expected across Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi.
The weather department has also forecast isolated heavy rainfall in East Uttar Pradesh and West Rajasthan. East Rajasthan may see heavier spells, with isolated locations expected to record heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Odisha and Bengal Remain Under Rain Alert
Rain activity is expected to remain widespread across Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Odisha is particularly likely to experience intense rainfall, with a warning for very heavy rain issued for August 8.
Bihar is also expected to continue receiving widespread rainfall as the active weather system affects parts of eastern India. Residents in areas prone to flooding and water accumulation have been advised to keep track of local weather updates.
Northeast Likely to See Heavy Showers
The northeastern region is expected to remain wet, with isolated heavy rainfall forecast over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya. Other northeastern states may also receive significant rain during the period.
The combination of persistent rainfall and thunderstorms could create difficult travel conditions in some areas, particularly where drainage systems are unable to cope with intense downpours.
Western and Southern Regions Also Affected
Konkan and Goa are likely to experience widespread rainfall, while parts of Maharashtra and Gujarat may also receive showers. The weather pattern is expected to remain active across several parts of western India.
In the south, Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka are forecast to receive heavy rainfall on August 8, with very heavy rain possible at isolated locations. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds may also occur over parts of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
Fishermen Advised to Avoid Rough Sea Conditions
The IMD has issued a caution for fishermen in several sea areas because of unfavorable weather conditions. The advisory covers waters along and off the coasts of Oman, Karnataka and Kerala.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the affected areas while the adverse conditions persist.
Heavy Rain Disrupts Life Across Delhi-NCR
The latest forecast comes after torrential rain affected Delhi and surrounding areas on Friday. Several roads were inundated, traffic movement was disrupted and emergency teams responded to incidents caused by waterlogging.
MB Road in South Delhi was among the badly affected stretches. Near the Air Force Station, water reportedly rose to around four feet, leaving several vehicles stranded and causing major traffic congestion.
Vehicles Stuck on Flooded Roads
Motorcycles and autorickshaws were among the vehicles that reportedly broke down after entering flooded sections. Air Force trucks were also deployed to help movement through some waterlogged stretches.
Traffic remained slow on several key roads, including ITO, Patel Road, Rohtak Road, Wazirabad Road, Kirti Nagar, Shaheen Bagh and the Delhi-Jaipur Highway. Areas near Badarpur Border Metro Station also faced difficulties, while flooded subways and submerged roads further affected commuters.
The continuing rainfall forecast means residents across affected regions may face further disruption, making caution and regular updates important as weather conditions develop.
