Weather – The Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai has indicated that parts of Tamil Nadu may experience rainfall over the coming days, offering some relief from the ongoing heat across the state.

Rain Likely in Western Ghats and Southern Coastal Areas

According to an official statement released on Monday, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in isolated locations across the Western Ghats districts on Monday and Tuesday. These weather conditions may particularly impact hilly regions, where cloud formation is more active during this period.

Additionally, a few areas along the southern coastal districts are also likely to receive light rainfall during the same timeframe. Though the intensity may remain limited, these scattered showers could bring temporary cooling in affected regions.

Atmospheric Changes Driving Localised Rainfall

Meteorologists have attributed the expected rainfall to evolving atmospheric conditions over the southern peninsula. These changes are likely to trigger localized precipitation, especially in elevated terrains and coastal belts.

Such weather patterns are common during seasonal transitions, where heat buildup combined with moisture leads to brief spells of rain and thunderstorms.

Rainfall Activity to Continue Into Early April

The forecast further suggests that light rainfall may persist on April 1 and April 2 in select parts of Tamil Nadu. Isolated areas in both the Western Ghats and southern coastal regions are expected to continue receiving mild showers during this period.

While widespread rainfall is not anticipated, these intermittent spells may help ease rising temperatures in specific pockets of the state.

Chennai to See Partly Cloudy Skies

In Chennai, the weather is expected to remain partly cloudy over the next few days. The maximum temperature is likely to stay around 35 degrees Celsius, which is typical for this time of year.

However, the presence of cloud cover may slightly reduce the intensity of daytime heat. Occasional variations in temperature could also be observed due to shifting cloud patterns.

Gradual Drop in Temperatures Across Regions

The weather department has also indicated a gradual decline in maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. In some areas, temperatures could drop by up to 3 degrees Celsius by April 2.

This reduction is expected to occur progressively and may vary from region to region, depending on cloud development and localized weather systems.

Advisory for Thunderstorm-Prone Areas

Although no severe weather warnings have been issued, authorities have advised residents in areas likely to experience thunderstorms to remain cautious. Lightning activity, in particular, could pose risks during sudden weather changes.

People are encouraged to stay informed about local forecasts and take necessary precautions when outdoor conditions become unstable.

Mixed Weather Brings Some Relief

Overall, the upcoming weather pattern points to a combination of light rainfall and a modest decrease in temperatures. While not widespread, these changes are expected to provide some relief as Tamil Nadu moves further into the summer season.
