Weather – Rising Temperatures Set to Grip Northern and Central India This Week
Weather – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that several parts of Northwest India are likely to experience a steady increase in daytime temperatures starting April 20. According to the forecast, maximum temperatures could rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next few days, affecting states such as Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh.

Heatwave Conditions Expected Across Several Regions
The IMD has issued a warning about severe heatwave conditions developing across parts of Northwest, Central, and Eastern India. Jharkhand is expected to experience heatwave conditions on April 20, while eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh may face similar conditions between April 20 and April 23.
Western Uttar Pradesh is likely to see heatwave conditions from April 20 to April 22, whereas western Rajasthan may remain under intense heat from April 20 to April 23. Additionally, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Odisha are expected to experience heatwave conditions between April 21 and April 23.
On April 20, isolated regions in West Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha may also witness extreme heat.
Air Quality and Possible Weather Relief
In Delhi, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 198 on Monday morning, indicating moderate pollution levels. However, there is a possibility of some relief later in the week. Meteorologists have predicted the arrival of a Western Disturbance around April 23, which could bring changes in weather patterns and offer temporary respite from the rising heat.
Persistent Heat and Humidity in Southern and Eastern Areas
Apart from northern and central regions, southern and eastern parts of India are also expected to experience uncomfortable weather conditions. States such as Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and coastal Karnataka are likely to witness hot and humid conditions until April 25.
Gangetic West Bengal is also expected to remain under similar conditions during this period. Additionally, warm night conditions may prevail in Odisha and Haryana, making it difficult for residents to find relief even after sunset.
Severe Heat Situation in Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh continues to face extreme heat, particularly in Raipur, where temperatures have already crossed 43 degrees Celsius. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for central areas of the state, cautioning residents about prolonged exposure to high temperatures and the risk of heat-related stress.
Meteorologists have observed a noticeable increase in temperatures over the past week in the region, with only slight improvement expected in the coming days.
Advisory and Safety Measures
The IMD has advised people across affected regions to take necessary precautions during this period of intense heat. Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours, and follow general safety guidelines to prevent heat-related illnesses.
Changing Weather Patterns in Northern Hills
While most regions are bracing for heat, parts of northern India may witness a different weather pattern. Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana could experience rainfall and snowfall in the coming days.
These areas may also see thunderstorms, strong winds, and isolated hailstorms, indicating varied weather conditions across the country.
Public Advised to Stay Alert
The IMD has urged citizens to remain cautious as weather conditions are expected to fluctuate across different regions. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.
