Weather – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a spell of wet weather across several parts of Tamil Nadu, with heavy rain and strong winds expected to affect parts of the state over the next few days. The forecast is linked to a weak low-pressure circulation over the Tamil Nadu coast, which continues to support rainfall activity across the Western Ghats region.
The India Meteorological Department has identified Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, The Nilgiris, Theni, and Kanyakumari among the districts most likely to receive widespread rainfall on Saturday. Hilly areas and locations along the Western Ghats are expected to witness the heaviest showers, while gusty winds may accompany the rain in several places. Officials have urged residents in sensitive locations to remain cautious as weather conditions may change rapidly.
Rainfall Expected to Continue Through Early August
According to IMD officials, the weak low-pressure circulation near the Tamil Nadu coastline is likely to maintain favourable conditions for rainfall across the Western Ghats districts. As a result, moderate rainfall is expected to continue in these areas until August 6. Moisture-rich winds moving into the region are expected to produce intermittent spells of rain over the coming days.
Northern Coastal Districts Also Under Watch
Apart from the hill districts, parts of northern coastal Tamil Nadu are also expected to receive moderate rainfall at isolated locations. Strong winds may accompany these showers, although widespread flooding is not anticipated at this stage. Weather experts have indicated that some places could witness short-duration heavy rainfall, especially during the evening and night, which may lead to temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Chennai Likely to Receive Evening Showers
The forecast also points to changing weather conditions in Chennai. Some parts of the city are likely to receive moderate rain during the evening or nighttime, offering temporary relief from the recent hot weather. However, daytime temperatures are expected to remain relatively high despite the possibility of rainfall, with the maximum temperature likely to reach around 38 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures May Ease Across Tamil Nadu
Across the rest of Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, weather conditions are expected to become slightly cooler over the next few days. Increased cloud cover and ongoing rainfall activity are likely to bring down daytime temperatures by as much as 2 degrees Celsius. The expected drop in temperature is mainly associated with the prevailing weather system influencing the region.

The weather department has advised people, particularly those living in hilly areas and regions vulnerable to landslides, to keep track of official weather updates and follow local advisories. Travellers using mountain roads have also been asked to exercise extra caution during periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds, as weather conditions could affect visibility and road safety.
