Weather Alert –Delhi-NCR witnessed a refreshing change in weather on Tuesday morning as moderate rainfall brought relief from the persistent heat and humid conditions that had dominated the region over the past several days.
Rain Brings Cooler Conditions to Delhi-NCR
Residents of the national capital woke up to cloudy skies and intermittent showers, making the morning significantly more comfortable. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate rainfall is likely to continue through the day, while dense cloud cover is expected to keep temperatures under control.
The weather department estimates that Delhi’s maximum temperature will remain between 31°C and 33°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to stay in the range of 23°C to 25°C. The rainfall is likely to provide continued relief from the uncomfortable humidity experienced recently.
IMD Issues Red Warning for Patiala
Alongside the improved weather in Delhi-NCR, the IMD has released district-specific nowcast alerts for several parts of the country, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rainfall, and strong winds over the next two to three hours.
A Red Warning has been issued for Patiala district in Punjab, indicating potentially dangerous weather conditions that require immediate attention. The forecast predicts intense thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, wind speeds reaching nearly 60 kmph, and heavy rainfall exceeding 15 mm per hour. Residents have been advised to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary movement until conditions improve.
Orange Alerts Cover Multiple States
The weather department has also issued Orange Warnings for several districts across different states where thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds of 40 to 60 kmph, and moderate to heavy rainfall are expected. Rainfall intensity in these areas may range from 5 mm to over 15 mm per hour.
In Punjab, the warning applies to Fatehgarh Sahib, Ludhiana, Sangrur, and SAS Nagar. Uttar Pradesh districts under the alert include Amethi, Ayodhya, Barabanki, Fatehpur, Hardoi, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Lucknow, Pratapgarh, Raebareli, and Unnao.
The advisory also covers Kasaragod in Kerala; Dakshin Kannada, Shivamogga, and Udupi in Karnataka; Bhind, Datia, Gwalior, Morena, Sheopur Kalan, and Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh; Jiribam, Kamjong, Noney, Senapati, and Tamenglong in Manipur; Uttar Dinajpur in West Bengal; Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, and Wokha in Nagaland; Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, and Sivasagar in Assam; Ambala, Faridabad, Gurugram, Kaithal, and Kurukshetra in Haryana; along with Bageshwar, Dehradun, Pithoragarh, Tehri Garhwal, and Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand.

The IMD has urged people living in the affected districts to remain cautious as weather conditions may change rapidly. During thunderstorms, residents should avoid standing under trees, electricity poles, or weak structures that may become hazardous due to strong winds or lightning.
People planning to travel have been advised to check weather and traffic updates before leaving home. Authorities have also recommended staying away from low-lying areas vulnerable to flooding as well as regions prone to landslides. Following instructions issued by local administration and disaster management agencies is considered essential during periods of severe weather.
