ReligiousRemarks – Delhi BJP Seeks Police Action Over Congress MP’s Remarks on Goddess Sita
ReligiousRemarks – The Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has lodged a police complaint against Congress Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari, alleging that comments he made during a recent press conference about Goddess Sita hurt the religious sentiments of Sanatan followers. The complaint was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi), with the BJP demanding legal action under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

BJP Alleges Religious Sentiments Were Hurt
Advocate Sanket Gupta, a member of the BJP’s legal cell, said the complaint relates to statements made by Pramod Tiwari during a Congress press briefing held on August 2. According to Gupta, the remarks were disrespectful towards Goddess Sita and deeply offended members of the Sanatan community.
Speaking to reporters, Gupta said the party believes the alleged comments amount to a cognizable offence. He referred to Sections 299 and 302 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, arguing that the law provides a clear basis for investigation and appropriate legal proceedings. The BJP has requested the police to examine the matter and take action in accordance with the law.
Remarks Made During Congress Press Conference
The controversy stems from a Congress press conference in which Pramod Tiwari criticised the BJP over allegations related to the Ram Temple donation issue. During his address, he referred to the Ashwamedha Yagna described in Hindu tradition and questioned the absence of Goddess Sita during the consecration ceremony of the Ram Temple.
Tiwari also made remarks directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi while drawing a comparison with the traditional account of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. His comments have since become the focus of political criticism from the BJP, which maintains that they crossed the line of acceptable public discourse and offended religious beliefs.
BJP Links Incident to Parliament Protest
The BJP legal cell also connected the latest controversy with a recent protest held outside Parliament over the Ram Temple donation dispute. The party criticised Independent MP Rajesh Ranjan, popularly known as Pappu Yadav, for participating in a theatrical demonstration in which he appeared dressed as a saffron-clad priest while raising questions about alleged misuse of temple donations.
Advocate Gupta alleged that the demonstration, along with the latest remarks by Pramod Tiwari, reflected what he described as a repeated pattern of actions targeting the religious sentiments of Hindus. He further claimed that senior Congress leaders were involved in activities that disrespected Lord Ram and the broader Sanatan tradition.
Demand for Investigation and Criminal Proceedings
The BJP has urged the Delhi Police to conduct a detailed inquiry into the complaint against Pramod Tiwari. According to the party, the investigation should determine whether criminal offences were committed and whether legal proceedings should be initiated against those responsible.
Gupta stated that the written complaint also highlights concerns over what the BJP considers repeated incidents involving Congress leaders and their allies. The party has called for a thorough investigation and appropriate legal measures if any violations of the law are established.
Pappu Yadav Defends His Protest
Meanwhile, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav has defended the protest staged outside Parliament, describing it as a peaceful and dignified demonstration intended to raise questions about the Ram Temple donation controversy. He has rejected allegations that the performance insulted religious beliefs.
Pappu Yadav also said he would present his position before Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla after BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal moved a notice seeking a privilege motion against him. The issue has added another layer to the ongoing political confrontation between the ruling BJP and opposition leaders over the Ram Temple donation controversy and related public statements.
