Bypolls – The Bharatiya Janata Party is facing renewed political scrutiny after losing two key Assembly by-elections in Madhya Pradesh and Bihar, prompting discussions about the party’s electoral approach and internal assessment.
The debate gained further attention after senior BJP leader Yashodhara Raje Scindia shared a brief message on social media platform X, posting, “Time for self-introspection!!!” Although she did not explain the context of her remark, the statement came a day after the party’s defeats in the Datia Assembly bypoll in Madhya Pradesh and the Bankipur Assembly by-election in Bihar. The timing of the post quickly attracted interest among political observers and party workers alike.
Congress Holds Datia Seat in Madhya Pradesh
In Madhya Pradesh, the Congress successfully retained the Datia Assembly constituency. According to figures released by the Election Commission of India, Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh defeated BJP nominee Ashutosh Tiwari by a margin of 6,016 votes.
Ghanshyam Singh received 66,757 votes, accounting for 42.39 percent of the total votes polled. Ashutosh Tiwari secured 60,741 votes, or 38.57 percent. Damodar Yadav of the Azad Samaj Party finished in third place with 22,527 votes, representing 14.30 percent of the vote share. Throughout the counting process, the Congress candidate maintained a consistent lead, eventually securing victory without a major shift in the trend.
Prashant Kishor Delivers Landmark Win in Bankipur
The Bankipur Assembly by-election in Bihar produced another significant political development. Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor emerged as the clear winner, giving his newly established political party its first electoral success.
After 31 rounds of vote counting, Kishor had secured 63,203 votes, comfortably ahead of BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha, who received 44,250 votes. Rashtriya Janata Dal candidate Rekha Gupta finished third with 14,085 votes.
Kishor’s lead stood at 18,953 votes. However, at the time of the latest available update, the Election Commission had not yet issued its formal declaration of the final result.
BJP Accepts Public Verdict
Responding to the outcome in Bihar, senior BJP leader and state minister Vijay Kumar Sinha stated that the party respected the democratic process and accepted the mandate delivered by the voters. His remarks reflected the party’s acknowledgment of the election results despite the disappointing outcome.
