WaterConservation – Madhya Pradesh Launches Statewide Drive Ahead of Ganga Dussehra
WaterConservation – Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday announced an extensive water conservation campaign across the state that will continue until June 30 in connection with the upcoming Ganga Dussehra celebrations. The initiative aims to revive and protect traditional water sources, including rivers, ponds, canals, wells and other community water structures, with a strong focus on public involvement.

Campaign Focuses on Community Participation
Speaking during his visit to Ujjain, the Chief Minister said the success of the campaign would largely depend on collective participation from local residents, government departments and social organisations. According to Yadav, preserving water resources has become increasingly important due to changing environmental conditions and rising pressure on natural resources.
He stated that the government intends to strengthen existing water conservation systems while encouraging people to take responsibility for maintaining local water bodies. The campaign will also promote awareness about the long-term importance of sustainable water usage in both urban and rural areas.
Inspection of Simhastha-2028 Development Projects
During the visit, Yadav reviewed ongoing infrastructure work related to Simhastha-2028, one of the largest religious gatherings held in Ujjain. He inspected road expansion projects and civic development work near the historic Ram Ghat situated along the banks of the Shipra River.
Officials briefed the Chief Minister on preparations aimed at improving transportation, crowd management and public facilities for the large number of pilgrims expected during the event. The government is also working on strengthening basic infrastructure to support residents after the religious congregation concludes.
Yadav said the projects are being planned with a long-term vision so that both devotees and local citizens can benefit from upgraded facilities for years to come.
Water Conservation Linked With Cultural Traditions
The Chief Minister highlighted that Ujjain’s traditions, including the Shipra Parikrama and Ganga Dussehra celebrations, have historically carried messages related to environmental protection and water preservation. He said the state government wants to further expand these initiatives to build greater awareness among younger generations.
According to him, water conservation should not remain limited to government programs alone but must become a people-driven movement. He also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s repeated appeals encouraging citizens to participate in efforts related to environmental sustainability and resource conservation.
State Claims Progress in Water Management
Yadav claimed that Madhya Pradesh has emerged as a leading state in water conservation activities and credited coordinated efforts between different departments for the progress achieved so far. Referring to a recent review meeting held at the Union Jal Shakti Ministry, he said the state continues to perform strongly in projects linked to water resource management.
The government has been working on restoring traditional water structures while also increasing storage capacity in several regions. Officials believe such efforts will help improve groundwater levels and strengthen water availability during dry seasons.
Preparations Continue for Major Religious Gathering
Apart from water conservation, the administration is accelerating preparations for Simhastha-2028, which is expected to attract millions of visitors from across the country. The state government is focusing on better sanitation systems, improved roads, enhanced public services and efficient traffic management.
Yadav praised the coordination between local authorities, elected representatives and residents in supporting the preparations. He described Ujjain as a city with deep spiritual and historical significance and said the development work should reflect its cultural importance while also meeting modern infrastructure needs.
