Travel – Char Dham Yatra Crosses 40 Lakh Pilgrims as Uttarakhand Prepares for Monsoon
Travel – The Char Dham Yatra continues to witness a strong turnout this year, with the number of devotees visiting the four sacred shrines crossing the 40 lakh mark. Authorities have said that the pilgrimage is moving forward without major disruptions, while preparations are being intensified to ensure smooth operations during the upcoming monsoon season.

Pilgrim Footfall Surpasses Previous Year
Garhwal Divisional Commissioner Anand Swaroop said that the annual pilgrimage has recorded higher participation than the same period last year. According to him, around 37 lakh devotees had completed the yatra by the end of June in 2025, whereas the current season has already exceeded 40 lakh visitors.
He also stated that the existing weather conditions have not significantly affected the movement of pilgrims. Officials believe the journey will continue without major interruptions before the arrival of the monsoon.
Monsoon Preparedness Underway
The administration expects the monsoon to become active after June 30. Keeping this in mind, authorities have held review meetings to strengthen preparedness for possible weather-related challenges.
Swaroop said the Disaster Management Department is continuously monitoring weather developments and remains ready to respond if heavy rainfall affects travel routes. The administration has also coordinated with various departments to ensure quick action whenever required during the pilgrimage season.
Administration Introduces Pilgrim Feedback System
Officials have introduced a new initiative to improve the overall experience of visitors. Pilgrims are now being encouraged to share feedback about the facilities and services available during their journey.
The administration believes that direct responses from devotees will help identify areas requiring improvement and contribute to better management throughout the remaining pilgrimage period.
Char Dham Yatra Began in April
The Char Dham Yatra officially commenced on April 22 with traditional religious ceremonies across the Himalayan shrines. The pilgrimage to Kedarnath Temple started with the ceremonial procession of Lord Kedarnath’s Panchmukhi palanquin from the Omkareshwar Temple, marking the beginning of one of India’s most important annual spiritual journeys.
Every year, lakhs of devotees travel to Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri to seek blessings during the pilgrimage season.
Chief Minister Reviews Arrangements
Earlier this week, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed officials to maintain high standards of facilities and safety for pilgrims visiting both the Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib Yatra.
He welcomed devotees and tourists to Uttarakhand, describing the state as a unique destination known for its spiritual significance, cultural heritage, and natural beauty. The Chief Minister also appealed to visitors not to believe rumours and instead rely on official information during their journey.
Dhami noted that both the Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib pilgrimages are progressing smoothly. He added that the number of pilgrims visiting Hemkund Sahib during the initial phase of this year’s pilgrimage is around 25,000 higher than the corresponding period last year, reflecting growing participation across the state’s major religious routes.
